In a behind-the-scenes clip shared by A24 Thursday, Coppola and Priscilla exchanged words about the genesis of their working relationship, with the former touching on how she considers the star and her late ex-husband Elvis to be “American legends” and “our version of royalty.” Priscilla is directed and written by Coppola, with Jacob Elordi taking on the role of Elvis and Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla. “When I read Priscilla’s memoir, I was just struck with what an unusual, wild ride her life has been,” Coppola says in the clip, which prompts Priscilla to quip that “It’s a long story.” Cailee Spaeny Jokes She and Jacob Elordi Were 'Good Study Buddies' When Researching for Priscilla Coppola further noted that “we know so much about Elvis, and it was really important to me to show the story through Priscilla’s experiences.” For Priscilla, the decision to work with Coppola on the project is one that stems from a deeply-rooted respect for her style of writing and filmmaking. “I’ve seen all of her movies. And her sensitivity, her understanding of women, she really puts her heart and soul into it,” she said. “I would never do this with anyone else.” Coppola highlighted her love “to be immersed in someone else’s world” while creating a film. “You can really relate to all of the things that she went through. The fun of it and also the struggles and the isolation,” she added of Priscilla’s life.
