The performance comes just a few days after Hemsworth officially filed for divorce. Backstage, Cyrus was seen with Kaitlynn Carter, Brody Jenner's ex-wife who is tangled up in the breakup rumors. Cyrus was seen kissing Carter just days after announcing her separation. 05 of 19 Taylor Swift Promoted Equality in Her Acceptance Speech for Video of the Year Taylor Swift. MTV Swift's song, "You Need to Calm Down," won Video of the Year, and Swift made sure to drive home the point of the anthem in her acceptance speech and pointedly call out the White House for not acknowledging the 500,000 signatures she's collected on a petition to support the Equality Act. She said to fans, "You voting for this video means you want a world where we’re all treated equally, regardless of who we love and how we identify … We deserve equal rights under the law." 06 of 19 Alyson Stoner Returned 17 Years Later to Reprise her Role as the Star of Missy Elliot's 'Work It' Alyson Stoner. Fans, like Halsey and Gigi Hadid, got out of their seats to dance as Elliot rapped to a medley of her hits, including "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)," "Get Ur Freak On" and "Lose Control." Normani's highly anticipated performance went off with a bang, as she appeared on stage sitting on top of a basketball hoop in between her dancers who twerked on chain link fences. She also brought other memorable moments from her video to the stage, such as the high-energy choreography, the 2000s-inspired looks and her now-famous move where she makes going from a headstand to landing smoothly into a split look easy. 08 of 19 Sophie Turner Fangirled Over Lizzo Sophie Turner/Instagram The actress sent out a congratulatory tweet to her husband Joe Jonas and brother-in-laws Nick and Kevin Jonas to celebrate their VMA wins and to shoutout her love for pop sensation Lizzo.
