On Wednesday, June 26, the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office revealed it would not be pursuing criminal charges against the 49-year-old rapper, born Michael Render. “Mr. Render has successfully completed the Office’s Hearing process, including a community service requirement that was imposed,” a representative from the L.A. City Attorney’s Office told PEOPLE in a statement. On Sunday, Feb. 4, Killer Mike was escorted out of the awards show in handcuffs, hours after winning best rap song and best rap performance for "Scientist & Engineers" and best rap album for Michael during the show's pre-telecast ceremony. TMZ reported that the incident occurred after an "alleged physical confrontation. Gardner also reported that a police official said Killer Mike could be "released later from the arena." While leaving the Crypto.com Arena in L.A., someone could be heard in the footage saying "Free Mike." At the time, it was unclear whether Killer Mike had been booked or charged. PEOPLE had reached out to the rapper's representative for comment at the time of the incident. A representative from the Los Angeles Police Department would not confirm the musician's identity but told PEOPLE that just after 4 p.m., a male was detained for his involvement in a physical altercation. On Tuesday, Feb. 6, the "Run" artist shared a statement with PEOPLE citing "confusion around which door my team and I should enter." "We experienced an over-zealous security guard but my team and I have the upmost confidence that I will ultimately be cleared of all wrongdoing," Killer Mike said.
