Glen Powell is proud of his parents’ acting chops.

The Anyone But You actor, 35, shared that his parents, Glen Sr. and Cyndy, had a cameo in his new film with Syndey Sweeney. They show up as airline passengers in one scene, and he showered them with praise for their performances.

“The funniest part about that scene in general is that my dad's the real Method actor,” Powell told Entertainment Weekly. “He's stone-cold asleep.”

“I'm sitting there as Sydney is trying to do gymnastics over my face and quite often slipping and falling onto me, and I'm having to not break. Whereas my dad, he's the Daniel Day-Lewis of sleep acting,” he explained. “There was not a false beat in that performance.”

Meanwhile, his mother got to shine in the movie with a classic line, which he said she nailed.

“My mom is across the aisle and gets the ‘I'll have what she's having’ When Harry Met Sally moment. She gets an iconic look in that scene,” he noted. “She came in and killed it.”

The actor added, “I was very proud of both of them in that scene.”

Powell also noted he attributes his affinity for being a “romantic” to his parents and sister. He said “grand gestures are a part of the love language of my family.”

“My parents are two people who never forget the privilege it is to find a soulmate and someone you want to spend the rest of your life with,” Powell said.

“I was also part of my sister's proposal,” he added. “She was a fan of The Amazing Race, and her now husband asked me to plan an Amazing Race-style proposal. He did not want to know what any of the challenges were. So we filmed this whole thing where we did the challenges around this town where we have this family ranch.”

In Anyone But You, Powell and Sweeney play a charming finance bro and a Boston University law school student, whose first (and only) date goes south before they find themselves both headed to the same destination wedding in Australia.

Powell told PEOPLE he was lucky to have a scene partner in Sweeney, who made him feel at ease when it came to filming the rom-com.

“The key to a great partner in that journey is someone who's not afraid to look dumb and who's in it with you and not protective,” he told PEOPLE earlier this month. “Sydney's just vulnerable. She just throws her heart onto film and throws herself in the deep end and is the first person to be goofy in front of everybody.”

“I think that's the one thing that we had, is that we both just had the best time looking stupid on this movie together. I think it makes for really, really great chemistry,” he added.

Anyone But You is in theaters now.
