Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder Are Husband and Wife House Flippers in The Curse: 'What Could Go Wrong?'

A millennial couple is ready for their reality TV debut — until a $100 bill seems to change the course of their relationship

In the first trailer for their new Showtime series, Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder are poised to become a dream TV couple — but there's a hitch.

The full trailer for A24’s dark comedy The Curse dropped on Thursday. There’s no shortage of suspense and comedy as the extended teaser promises, “This isn’t your typical home-flipping show.”

Stone, 34, and Fielder, 40, play HGTV couple Whitney and Asher as they film the first season of their renovation series. While shooting B-role footage, Asher offers a young girl a $100 bill.

From there, everything falls apart.

“We’re doing good here. We are good people,” Asher tells a friend, before ripping the $100 bill back from the girl when he thinks cameras aren’t rolling. “So all I had on me was that $100 bill," he justifies. "Let me go get change and—”

The child says there are “no refunds” before offering an ominous “I curse you” to the television star. It triggers a disagreement with Whitney, who asks, “Why didn’t you just give her the $100?”

While the curse may seem like child’s play, the tone of the trailer soon turns foreboding as Whitney and Asher’s life begins to unravel off screen, and he admits, “Things have been a little weird.”

As the trailer goes on, the couple disagree, their motivations — and morals — seeming at odds.

Arrests, armed men, running children, dead birds and fake smiles plaster flash, leading to a voiceover warning: “Everyone will get to see who you really are.”

The Curse is co-created by Fielder and Benny Safdie (who also stars). It’s described as “a genre-bending series that explores how an alleged curse disturbs the relationship of a newly married couple as they try to conceive a child while costarring in their new home-improvement show.”
