The 47-year-old actress, who is Charlie Sheen's ex-wife, sat down with the Hollywood Raw podcast with Dax Holt and Adam Glyn for a rare interview — her first in 15 years. During the conversation, Mueller revealed that she’s been sober for nearly nine months. Brooke Mueller and Charlie Sheen; September 2009. Steve Granitz/WireImage When asked by Holt, 42, how the journey has been, she wasn’t afraid to hold back. “It's been hard,” Mueller said after thanking him for asking about the process. “And a lot of people at my level of addiction don't make it,” she added. “In fact, most people don't. I worked really hard. It has not been easy. I am sober. I do work a program. I do believe in the Twelve Steps.” Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. Mueller revealed that one of the things that’s made her sobriety manageable is having a good support system in place. “I have a fantastic sober community here in Malibu of some great women, and set meetings that I go to,” she said, adding, “And to answer your question, I have nine months sober. Well, next week will be nine months.” Though Mueller claims to have a handle on her journey, the actress insisted that wasn’t always the case — saying it took a lot to get to where she is today. “Do you want to know how much it cost me since my first rehab at 19 or 20, to my 30th rehab at 47?” she asked Holt and Glyn. “It's in the millions.” Brooke Mueller Checks Into Trauma Center as Video of Her Allegedly Preparing to Smoke Meth Leaks “And it's no exaggeration because unfortunately, I thought you had to go to these rehabs that cost anywhere from $75k to $140k a month to get sober,” Mueller said. She continued, “And in fact, this last time I went to an insurance-only place, and they did not cater to me. They did not enable me. They did not care who I could have been or anything like that.” “So what was fantastic about that experience is, it was real, it was raw, and it woke me up. It really did,” Mueller said. Perry was 54 years old when he was found dead in his pool on Oct. 29, 2023. A medical examiner later determined the actor died of "acute effects of ketamine." A source told PEOPLE Mueller first met the Friends star 20 years ago before she married Sheen in 2008. She and Perry reconnected a few years ago in rehab. “Brooke Mueller was questioned in this case because she was friends with Matthew Perry but she never used ketamine,” a source with knowledge of the investigation told PEOPLE.
