Channing Tatum Pays Emotional Tribute to Ryan Reynolds: ‘Almost No One That Has Had My Back More’ Tatum had been linked to Gambit since at least 2006, when he was considered to play the beloved ‘90s character in X-Men: The Last Stand. The role was ultimately written out of the movie and Taylor Kitsch was cast as Gambit for X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), which also marked the first time Reynolds played Deadpool. Tatum recently thanked Reynolds in an emotional Instagram post for helping him bring Gambit to life with his cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. "I thought I had lost Gambit forever," he wrote. "But he fought for me and Gambit. I will owe him probably forever. Cause I’m not sure how I could ever do something that would be equal to what this has meant to me. I love ya buddy." Close
