On Saturday, the Beverly Hills, 90210 actress made her first red carpet appearance since she revealed her diagnosis to PEOPLE exclusively in August. She stepped out at the Baby2Baby gala in Los Angeles wearing a sleeveless, black Vera Wang gown, which she accessorized with dangly earrings and a stack of silver bangles. Doherty, 44, also shared a picture from the red carpet on Instagram on Sunday, writing, “Such a wonderful evening with inspiring women like @KerryWashington who gave one of the most inspiring speeches and the gorgeous, funny @JessicaAlba.” Rita Wilson Has Breast Cancer, Undergoes Double Mastectomy and Reconstructive Surgery Nearly three months ago, Doherty confirmed to PEOPLE that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2015. “Yes, I have breast cancer, and I am currently undergoing treatment,” she said in an exclusive statement. “I am continuing to eat right, exercise and stay very positive about my life. I am thankful to my family, friends and doctors for their support and, of course, my fans who have stood by me.” Before Doherty’s official announcement, legal documents surfaced that revealed she was suing her former business manager for failing to pay her insurance premiums, allowing her health insurance to lapse and thus keeping her from receiving medical care. According to the documents, the actress “was also informed that, had she been insured and able to visit her doctor, the cancer could potentially have been stopped, thus obviating the need for future treatment (including mastectomy and chemotherapy) that [Doherty] will likely have to suffer through now.” Close
