Angelina, yes. J-Law, no.

Chloë Sevigny has weighed in on some A-list movie stars, and the indie actress certainly has her preferences.

“I love when a movie star is a great movie star,” Sevigny, 40, tells V Magazine. “I think Angelina Jolie is a great movie star. I don’t think I can be that, or just be an actor. I don’t think I have the charisma. Which is probably why I never reached another level. I like Emma Stone. Whenever she’s herself, she’s really cute.”

But Jennifer Lawrence? Sure, everyone loves her – but not Sevigny.

“Jennifer Lawrence I find annoying,” she says. “Too crass.”

Sevigny did the interview to promote a new, self-titled book about herself, published by Rizzoli, that collects images, ephemera and other mementos from her life. It’s an offbeat, artistic project – the kind of self-promotion that’s a long way from the talk-show circuit.

“So much is about marketing and selling the product,” she says of the Hollywood promotional machine. “They’ll have a really peppy, funny girl on the talk-show rounds, and everybody adores her and loves her, and wants to be her or f–– her, and then so many more people want to watch the movie or TV show. I understand that star quality, how much value that carries.”

Even without that level of star quality, Sevigny has had an interesting and varied career. Still, she wishes she got a little more respect.

“I’m afraid that maybe people think there’s more personality than acting ability,” she says. “What I did on Big Love, Hit & Miss and American Horror Story, it’s not like I’m just playing the same character over and over again. I would like to be respected more as an actress. It’s not like I can complain about anything. I think I’ve had great opportunities, but you can always have more.”

And in a bit of personal news, it seems Sevigny might be ready to take the next step with her art director boyfriend, Rene Navarrette. Spotting a ring on her finger, the interviewer asks if she’s engaged.

“It’s sort of an engagement,” she replies.
