The Call Her Daddy podcast host, 29, married Hollywood producer Matt Kaplan earlier this month in Riviera Maya, Mexico.“It was everything we wanted it to be,” Cooper said of the nuptials in an interview with Vogue. “It was emotional, heartfelt, and we tailored it to exactly how we always envisioned it.” Kaplan told the publication he led the way with planning their nuptials and that the pair knew exactly what they wanted for their special day. “We weren’t looking to have a formal wedding,” he said. "We wanted it to feel relaxed and authentic to us and the location, so from the decor to the festivities it all was very naturally curated.” Added Cooper: “We wanted to choose a destination that was private, romantic, and felt like a vacation for not only us but all of our guests. It was really important to us to keep the guest list small so we could be present with each other and the people who we love the most and who have helped us become who we are today.” For her walk down the aisle, Cooper wore a custom Danielle Frankel dress. “The dress truly turned out to be my dream,” she told Vogue. “I felt so classic and chic in it. I felt confident and sexy while still elegant and timeless. [From there,] the rest of the looks fell into place.” The couple's beloved goldendoodle dogs Henry and Bruce served as their ring bearers. “They each had one of our rings around their collar and when my brother asked for the rings, they had their own moment entering from the double doors and came running down the aisle," Cooper said. "It was perfection.” Cooper's brother Grant officiated the nuptials where Cooper and Kaplan exchanged personal vows. Following the ceremony, the newlyweds joined guests for cock hour cocktail before the group moved hour down to the beach for dinner in an open-air tent. After speeches, everyone hit the dance floor. “The vibes were immaculate. There were dance-offs, bottles being passed around, crowd surfing…and once again, I’m not a dancer, but there wasn’t a care in the world from anyone that night. Everyone was on cloud nine,” Cooper said. To cap off the night, guests all ran and jumped into the ocean—dresses, suits, and all. “I was expecting maybe just my close friends to join in, but to my complete shock almost the entire wedding took charge to the ocean,” Cooper said. “Parents, grandparents, family, and friends.” Cooper and Kaplan got engaged in March 2023. She later recounted the proposal, telling W Magazine that Kaplan used a little ruse to keep the moment a surprise for her. She was lured out of the house for a fake photo shoot, leaving Kaplan free to get to work, setting a romantic scene that included candles, music and a personalized scavenger hunt that ultimately led her to him — and their two dogs, who wore bowties for the occasion. According to Cooper, Kaplan said, "You're my soulmate, the love of my life. You make me a better man. Please do me the honor of marrying me." "I like, blacked out," she recalled of her reaction. "I think I said yes at first. It was very surreal." Alex Cooper shows off her engagement ring after Matt Kaplan proposed. The pair first met on a Zoom call in 2020, after which Cooper gave Kaplan the nickname of "Mr. Sexy Zoom Man" on her popular podcast to keep his identity a secret. While Cooper told W that she wasn't sure marriage was something she wanted, she had a moment of clarity during a November 2022 date night at a restaurant and informed Kaplan he could propose "whenever he wanted." Kaplan — who produced the Netflix hit franchise To All the Boys I've Loved Before — was thrilled. "He was beaming, because he had accepted that maybe we wouldn't get married," she said. The podcaster also opened up to W about how supportive Kaplan is of her career. "Matt has always been my biggest supporter," she said. "It's very attractive to have a man not be intimidated by a woman's extreme success." Alex Cooper/ Instagram Ahead of her wedding, Cooper shared a glimpse of her wedding shopping adventures. She posted a photo on Instagram of herself standing next to a rack of bridal gowns while holding a glass of champagne. "Let’s do this 🥹😝👰🏼♀️," she captioned it. She also gave her podcast listeners a few wedding planning updates along the way. In an August 2023 episode, she admitted to struggling with pinning down the right location for the nuptials. “We want it to be somewhere that matters to us and we don’t want to cater to our guests," she said, revealing at the time that they had decided on a tropical location — with plenty of privacy. "I don't want it to be somewhere people can publicly consume our wedding," she noted. Cooper also shared that her biggest priority was being fully "present" in the moment with Kaplan. "It’s so important to me that Matt and I actually have this day to ourselves. I refuse to not be present with my partner," she explained. "I would rather have every f---ng person at our wedding have the worst goddamn time and Matt and I f---ing thrive." "We had a little pre-wedding celebration with Matt’s 100 yr old grandma last night. She sadly won’t be able to travel to our wedding so we wanted to make her feel special and a part of everything❤️ sobbing love you grandmommy. The daddy gang loves you too you legend (yes she’s wearing Chd sweats)," she continued. Now as Cooper reflects on the couple's multi-day affair, it was everything they hoped it would be. “Matt and I were both so intentional about making the weekend about being present with each other and our friends and family, and that’s exactly what we did,” she told Vogue. “There’s no detail or moment I won’t remember—and I will cherish this celebration of our love forever.” Close
