Anne Hathaway is paying tribute to two 2004 pop culture moments that remain linked forever.

On Aug. 7, the actress, 41, marked the 20th anniversary of her movie The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement on Instagram. In the post, Hathaway also shouted out Kelly Clarkson, whose 2004 hit "Breakaway" stands out at the top of the movie's soundtrack and is prominently featured in the film.

The actress shared a number of images from the movie — including moments featuring her with costars Chris Pine, Callum Blue, Julie Andrews and director Garry Marshall — in the post, as well as a clip from Clarkson's music video for the song, which shows her attending a premiere for the film.

"Happy 20th anniversary to #PrincessDiaries2 and @kellyclarkson’s Breakaway!" Hathaway wrote in a caption.

The Princess Diaries movies marked Hathaway's ascension to Hollywood fame in the early 2000s. She played Mia Thermopolis — who learns she is the heir to a fictional European kingdom — for the first time in the 2001 original before returning for the second, in which her character is tasked with finding a husband in order to retain her claim to the throne.

Back in May, Pine recalled he received $65,000 for costarring in Princess Diaries 2 while he appeared on an episode of Sunday TODAY to promote his movie Poolman. "It was like they had just told me I’d made $50 million," he said; the part marked his first appearance in a film. "It was absolutely earth-shattering."

"I just remember distinctly knowing in that moment that my life had changed somehow, even though [$65,000] at the end of the day turned out to be about $15,000,” he recalled.

Hathaway last spoke about the potential for another sequel during an interview with V Magazine in April, when she shared, “We’re in a good place. That’s all I can say. There’s nothing to announce yet. But we’re in a good place."

Rumors first emerged that Disney was developing a third Princess Diaries film in November 2022. While no announcement has been made yet, Hathaway's costar Andrews, 88, suggested in a March interview with TODAY.com that "sometimes it’s best to leave a good thing alone."

"There was dialogue about it," Andrews told the outlet, adding, "nothing had been realized. And I think I may be wrong, but I think it’s been shelved now. I can’t be sure."

"I’d be very happy if we did do another one. But I don’t expect to," she added.
