With the Mamma Mia series potentially embarking on a third film, Amanda Seyfried is hearing out pitches for who could play her character's daughter.

While speaking with ABC News' Will Ganss in a video the outlet shared to TikTok on Tuesday, Oct. 1, Seyfried, 38, was asked whether she may want pop star and actor Sabrina Carpenter to portray her character Sophie's daughter in a potential third Mamma Mia! movie.

"Mamma Mia 3, let's go baby,' Seyfried said when her famous jukebox movie musical series was first broached. "Everybody says it's going to happen, but I haven't seen a script."

When interviewer Ganss pointed out that Carpenter, 25, recently performed ABBA's "Mamma Mia" during a concert on her ongoing Short n' Sweet Tour, he asked whether it might make sense for Carpenter to play Seyfried's daughter in the next movie — even though Seyfried is only 13 years older than the "Espresso" singer.

"Yeah - technically, she could," Seyfried said, after a pause. "You're right. Actually, doesn't matter. You're right. You know what? Old age makeup for me. I don't mind. I'm an actor, I'll do it. If Sabrina Carpenter wants to play my daughter, I'll make it happen. It's fine. I'm a big fan."

Seyfried famously costarred with Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Dominic Cooper, Julie Walters and Christine Baranski, among others, in 2008's Mamma Mia! a movie adaptation of the stage musical based on ABBA's music. The film's story revolves around Sophie, a bride-to-be living on a fictional Greek island who invites three men — one of whom she believes may be her father — to her wedding in hopes of connecting with her biological father.

In 2018, Seyfried and much of the film's original cast returned for Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, which functions as both a sequel and prequel to the original movie. Lily James portrayed a younger version of Donna, Streep's character and Sophie's mother; the movie flashes back to Donna's encounters with Sophie's three possible fathers as Sophie and her husband Sky (Cooper) prepare to welcome their own child in the present.

While a third Mamma Mia movie has not yet officially been announced, Baranski, 72, told The Hollywood Reporter that series producer Judy Craymer recently pitched her a plan for the series' third film. "She gave me the narrative plotline of how it’s going to happen," Baranski said. "That’s all I can say!”

Craymer previously told Deadline in May 2023 that her plans for a third movie were "in its earliest stages," adding, "I don’t want to over-egg it, but I know there’s a trilogy there."
