When Kelly was a child, she was separated from her older siblings following their parents’ rocky divorce. The "Since U Been Gone" artist grew up with their mother, Jeanne Taylor, in Texas while Jason went to live with their father Stephen Clarkson in California and Alyssa moved in with relatives in North Carolina. The trio didn’t speak or see one another for over a decade due to means out of their control. “We couldn’t even afford to call. We were all very poor,” Kelly said during a 2009 SiriusXM appearance. A year prior to competing on American Idol, Kelly had the opportunity to reconnect with her siblings and the “Breakaway” singer noted it was an exciting time in their lives. “We’re exactly the same. My brother grew up with my dad in California, and I grew up in Texas with my mom,” Kelly revealed during a 2009 SiriusXM conversation. Kelly reconnected with her sister and brother in 2001 It wasn’t until they were adults that the siblings reconnected. In 2001, Jason wed and his sisters were in attendance. “The year before I actually auditioned for American Idol, my brother got married in Alaska and we all met up there and it was kind of then [that] we kept in contact,” Kelly said on SiriusXM. Kevin Winter/Getty Following her 2002 American Idol win, Kelly purchased 60 acres of land in Mansfield, Texas — less than 30 minutes outside of her hometown of Burleson. However, the sprawling estate wasn’t just for her enjoyment: Kelly shared the land with her barnyard of rescue animals as well as Alyssa and Jason, and their families, too. “I have a lot of land. We all live on the same land like in different parts of it,” she explained on SiriusXM in 2009, jokingly adding, “It’s a compound right now, we make fun of it. We’re trying to come up with a name.” The singer-songwriter continued, “My land kind of slopes — I live up on the top part, my brother lives at the way bottom and my sister lives on the side. It’s cool though!” In 2012, Kelly sold her portion of the land for $1.5 million, per Architectural Digest. ''I have told my sister I want her to be her, but I need her to control the magnetism she feels between [her] and Tom Ellis,'' Kelly teased in a confessional interview. ''I do love him, and Kelly told me not to say exactly why, but I read books, as my sister calls them 'naughty books.' Tom Ellis is the man I envision,'' Alyssa quipped. "It's just really cool to bring my mom and my sister here, because they both love the show like I do,'' Kelly added.
