On Thursday, the Golden Globes announced that comedian Jo Koy will host the awards show's 81st ceremony, set to air on CBS Jan. 7. Koy, 52, said in a statement, “I’ve stepped onto a lot of stages around the world in my career, but this one is going to be extra special. I’m so excited to be hosting the Golden Globes this year. This is that moment where I get to make my Filipino family proud. Mahal Kita (Google it)!" “We are thrilled to have Jo host the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards and bring his infectious energy and relatable humor to kick off Hollywood’s award season. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for the stars in the room and a global audience,” said Golden Globes President Helen Hoehne. “We know Jo is bringing his A-game.” 2024 Golden Globe Nominations: Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Fantasia Barrino and More Score Nods Koy is the first host to take on the Globes role after Dick Clark Productions and holding company Eldridge purchased the rights and assets to the long-running awards show in June. The Golden Globes were previously run by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which was founded in 1943 and faced a number of high-profile controversies related to its handling of the show in recent years. Comedian Jerrod Carmichael hosted last year's ceremony and brought the HFPA's diversity scandal to attention during his monologue. The 2022 Golden Globes did not feature a host; its former broadcast partner NBC declined to air that year's ceremony in response to the scandal. Other recent hosts include Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who cohosted the Globes for the fourth time in 2021, and Ricky Gervais, who also made his fourth hosting appearance at 2020's ceremony. Barbie received nine total nominations for the ceremony and leads among films in total nominations; Oppenheimer followed with eight, while Killers of the Flower Moon and Poor Things both received seven nominations. On the television side, Succession's final season received nine total nominations. The show will also stream on Paramount+ and be available on the CBS app. Close
