❧ Szerelem szerelem, Átkozott gyötrelem. Love love, Wretched suffering Szerelem szerelem, Átkozott gyötrelem, Love love, Wretched suffering Mért nem virágoztál Minden fa tetején, Why don’t you blossom On top of every tree, Minden fa tetején, Ciprushfa levelén. On top of every tree, On a cyprus leaf. Hogy szakasztott vólna, Minden szegény legény, So that they could pick you, Every penniless boy, Minden szegény legény, Minden árva leány. Every penniless boy, Every orphan girl.

And beauty thunders, it will reign upon this great earth. Water of life, would you teach me to sing your sweet song? And though great winds blow, oh my people we must carry on.

Thunder swept the mountain side, the day you left the village my love. T’was a full moon May night. And I remembered the time by the great riverside, when you taught me to dance, to dance in the storm. We had come from many a land, a great distance. All in search of the spirit, laid with longing far too long. Up the mountain we climbed, though the wind’s song was wild, to where the sacred wheel was laid and the fire burned on. ❧ As we called them one by one, North, South, East and West. Oh this stirring in my breast! Is it you blue hummingbird? You were my blue hummingbird. Called by the nectar of my flowering heart. Oh you could not linger long. But I remember the time by the great riverside when you taught me to dance, to dance in the storm. Water came down from the heavens above. She stung and bit our tender skin. Some ran for shelter, but we held the circle strong. Though the storm raged on, and the night grew so long... Soon came a clearing in the sky, pierced by the full moonlight. ‘Machi, Machi Machi Ma Machi cura, Machi sana Machi canta me una nana’ ❧ You were my blue humming bird. Called by the nectar of my flowering heart, oh you could not linger long. And I remember the time by the great riverside, when you taught me to dance, to dance in the storm.

Take a blessing from my heart to the land of my birth, the fair Hills of Eire, O! And to all that yet survive of Eibhear’s tribe on earth, On the fair Hills of Eire, O! In that land so delightful the wild thrush’s lay seems to pour a lament forth for Eire's decay Alas ! alas ! why pine I a thousand miles away From the fair Hills of Eire, ! The soil is rich and soft the air is mild and bland, On the fair Hills of Eire, O ! Her barest rock is greener to me than this rude land O ! the fair Hills of Eire. Her woods are tall and straight, grove rising over grove ; Trees flourish in her glens below, and on her heights above ; O, in heart and in soul, I shall ever, ever love The fair Hills of Eire, ! A noble tribe, moreover, are the now hapless Gael, On the fair hills of Eire, O ! A tribe in Battle’s hour unused to shrink or fail On the fair Hills of Eire, ! For this is my lament in bitterness outpoured, To see them slain or scattered by the Saxon sword. Oh, woe of woes, to see a foreign spoiler horde On the fair Hills of Eire, O !

How many times have we circled this fire, A prayer upon our lips? How many times have we gone to the waters edge to give thanks for these gifts? And we will rise again, We will rise again. My people will rise again, we’ll rise. So many times I’ve looked out across the ocean, wondered what is it all for? So many times I’ve raised my hands to the sky, I’ve prayed for more. And that we will rise again, We will rise again. Earth’s people will rise again, Oh, we’ll rise. And there is no time. And yet in the end, all will be restored in wholeness my friends. And we will rise again, We will rise again. Earth’s people will rise again, we’ll rise. Hallelujah!
