This was a wonderful project to be involved in. Real innovation from Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Whai Rawa in the funding model, enabling their hapū members access to more affordable quality housing on their whenua. It was worth the early start to attend the opening last Friday to see the happy new residents access their beautiful new homes. A great write up from Anne Gibson in NZ Herald today also. https://lnkd.in/gxDHyhzy Congratulations Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Whai Rawa.
Hawaiki papa kāinga, Hawaiki hou. Today was a special morning as we had the official opening karakia for our newest papa kāinga development, Hawaiki, in Ōrākei. This marks a significant milestone in our journey to provide affordable and meaningful housing solutions for our whānau. Hawaiki comprises 24 beautifully designed homes, made accessible through a long-term lease arrangement. This assists with affordability compared to similar properties in Ōrākei and creates a pathway for more whānau to achieve homeownership—a key objective of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei. He mihi nui tēnei ki Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga - Ministry of Housing and Urban Development NZ. We are grateful to have received funding from the Māori Infrastructure fund and Progressive Home Ownership fund for our Hawaiki papa kāinga development to assist our whānau into home ownership. With support from BNZ and Westpac, we’ve established a framework to provide direct lending for our whānau which we hope can assist other iwi to unlock their whenua for whānau-focused housing developments. Designed by Jasmax and built by Vivian Construction, these homes will soon welcome 20 whānau, most of whom will be stepping into homeownership for the very first time. Seeing this dream become a reality is a testament to the strength and resilience of our people and our commitment to keeping the fires of ahi kā roa burning strong. This development isn’t just about homes though—it’s about creating a thriving community where whānau can connect with their whenua and with each other. Hawaiki represents a new start and a desire for us to strive for more. Kia kōwhiuwhiutia tonutia te ahi kā, kei pūrēhua, ā, ka kewa.
