Construction Sector Accord: Co-Chairs’ Update. Following the Cabinet decision late last year, Ministers have decided to close Industry Transformation Plan Programmes, including the Construction Sector Accord’s Transformation Plan 2022-2025. Whilst the Transformation Plan stops, the Construction Sector Accord is to continue in a different form. The construction sector remains an important part of our economy, and the Government has reinforced its commitment to continue the partnership with industry. This means continuing to engage with industry on cross-sector opportunities, emerging issues, and bringing a more focused industry voice to Government priorities across housing and infrastructure sectors. The Construction Sector Accord has been an effective partnership in bringing the sector together with strong leadership to work alongside Government on systemic sector challenges. This leadership has brought together a unified response across emerging issues (COVID-19 and North Island weather events) as well as strong partnerships to support sector transformation through the Transformation Plan initiatives. The Transformation Plan work programme has made significant progress in supporting health, safety and wellbeing, workforce, client leadership, innovation, and environment initiatives across the sector. While existing Transformation Plan contracts are finishing, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) is supporting the process to close or handover initiatives, where possible ensuring the Accord’s momentum is maintained to lift performance and productivity across this critical sector. The Government intends to retain the sector leadership and engagement platform established through the Construction Sector Accord to build on the progress achieved over the last few years through this cross-sector partnership. As the current Accord Steering Group co-chairs, we are working with Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (MBIE) and the Building and Construction Minister to determine what the refreshed Construction Sector Accord leadership and engagement will look like. We would like to extend our thanks to all of you who have contributed to the important mahi of the Construction Sector Accord through both the 2019 and 2022 Transformation Plans.
