#Sustainable and more #profitable This is something I have been wanting to do for sometime. to push the conversation on #sustainability from #ideas to #implementation. “Rambling thoughts” In Nepal's hospitality sector, there has been a prevailing notion among investors that having a well-known brand would automatically boost business in hotels. However, this approach has not yielded the expected results. The reality is that several other factors are more critical for success in the industry. First and foremost, the quality of the product itself needs to be improved. This includes offering better services, guest experiences, and amenities that can genuinely attract and retain customers. Secondly, infrastructure development is key. Without proper roads, utilities, and support facilities, even well-branded hotels will struggle to attract guests, especially I can feel how pokhara / chitwan / Lumbini is suffering. connectivity by road and air must be enhanced. Tourists and guests need easy access to hotels, and if transportation options are limited or inconvenient, it hampers demand. My experience by road to pokhara was pathetic, domestic flights are even scary. Once these fundamental aspects—product quality, infrastructure, and connectivity—are addressed, the balance between room supply and demand is more likely to improve, leading to sustainable growth in the hospitality. In addition to focusing on product quality, infrastructure, and connectivity, investors in Nepal's hospitality sector must also recognize the importance of investing in their employees. The mindset of many investors has been too focused on branding, but real success lies in building a strong workforce. As the saying goes, “you give peanuts, and it attracts monkeys.” Underpaying or undervaluing staff will only result in poor service and high turnover rates, which ultimately damages the guest experience and the hotel's reputation. When I wonder around for lunch / dinner the marketing hype is extravaganza but when you really feel the service than delivery is lapsed. Another mindset, investing in people, offering fair wages, training, and development opportunities, the industry can foster a more dedicated, skilled, and motivated workforce. Moreover, promoting cultural diversity in the workplace can enhance the guest experience, as it brings varied perspectives and creativity, reflecting the rich cultural diversity that attracts tourists to Nepal in the first place. For long-term success, investors should view their workforce as a critical asset and focus on creating a positive work culture. This, combined with improvements in product, infrastructure, and connectivity, will create a sustainable, thriving hospitality industry. Lau jay hos !!!!

ITC Chief backs minimum room rates The recently unveiled ITC Hotels backed the highly debated Minimum Room Rate (MRR) regulation imposed on Colombo City hotels, citing that it serves the purpose of maintaining and elevating standards of hotels when prices come down. “It has to be looked at in the context of what purpose it serves? In the absence of a floor rate, what can happen is that standards will go down and upgradation that is required won’t happen,” Group ITC group Chairman Sanjeev Puri said speaking to journalists at the opening of the property last week. He asserted that the current floor rates serve the purpose of maintaining and elevating standards of hotels.
