Elinor Batteries is one of the few European battery initiatives that is progressing as planned. Yes, you heard that right! Finansavisen published an article today highlighting Elinor's role in the global battery market. At a time when many battery initiatives are facing significant challenges, Elinor stands out as one of the few companies still on track with plans to build a gigafactory in Orkland. Europe is in the midst of fierce global competition to establish a robust and sustainable battery industry. In this race, fair conditions are critical. For European battery factories to succeed, we need a level playing field – both in Europe and globally. At Elinor Batteries, we’ve adopted a strategy that sets us apart. By leveraging a capital-light setup and collaborating with our partner Morlus Technology, we can keep costs low while simultaneously building competence and capacity. This approach provides us with a clear competitive edge, especially as the battery market is expected to regain balance within the next 2–3 years. Moreover, our location in Orkland gives us access to affordable, renewable energy and proximity to world-class research institutions such as SINTEF and NTNU. These are just some of the advantages Elinor brings to the table. Europe has an incredible opportunity to lead the green transition, but success depends on ensuring fair competition. Batteries are at the forefront of the green transition! 🔋 Last week, DNV published their 8th annual Energy Transition Outlook, putting substantial resources and expertise at work to provide a broad analysis of the global energy transition. The report highlights the critical role that batteries will play in the shift toward a more sustainable future. With the electrification of transport, industry, and the energy sectors on the rise, batteries are essential to achieving climate goals and reducing CO2 emissions. Here are some of the key energy storage insights in the DNV report: -Massive growth in energy storage: Global energy storage capacity will increase 17-fold, from 1.75 TWh in 2023 to 30 TWh by mid-century, driven by the rising share of renewable energy. -Increased flexibility: The demand for grid flexibility will quadruple by 2050, and batteries will play a key role in balancing supply and demand in power systems. -Li-ion batteries leading the way: Li-ion batteries dominate short-term storage, with capacity expected to reach 24.5 TWh by 2050. These batteries store affordable daytime solar energy and release it during periods of higher demand.
