The Eindhoven Institute for Renewable Energy Systems (EIRES) is TU/e’s answer to the broad, multidisciplinary question that is the energy transition. EIRES facilitates the collaborative development and swift deployment of new technologies and devices by bringing together TU/e researchers working on materials, systems, and processes for energy storage and conversion. Our approach is based around societal impact: working on fundamental challenges underlying the development of systems with the potential for rapid upscaling and market penetration. That is why we promote academic research driven by societal challenges, with close partnerships between academia and the high-tech manufacturing industry in the region.

We are pleased to announce a significant milestone at TU Eindhoven with the GENIUS project (Grid Efficiency Network Integration for Universal Sustainability). 🔋 Key details: Funding from the EU, Dutch government, and Noord-Brabant province 📅 Unveiling: A 3.4 MWh smart battery on November 18, 15-17h 🤝 Collaboration: In partnership with nine project stakeholders 🎯 Objectives: Addressing campus grid congestion and establishing a sustainable innovation testbed The GENIUS project will implement an advanced control platform designed to optimize energy flows by integrating various energy sources and storage systems. Last night, Dutch broadcaster HUMAN aired an episode of the program "Ketens" (Chains) focusing on e-bikes, often touted as an environmentally friendly mode of transportation. The show delved into the darker side of e-bike production, specifically examining the supply chain of their batteries and the inhumane extraction of nickel. One of the guests on the program was Prof. Dr. Moniek Tromp🟥, who explained the workings of batteries. She emphasizes the importance of developing a sustainable Dutch-made battery🔋.
