OTD 2017 Dimming the NVG compatible cockpit lighting for a flight at dusk meant the fuel transfer pump caution lights were invisible. The failure to turn these pumps on was only evident after flameout. With the re-introduction of the 100ml liquids limit at airport security, huge confusion and long queues have resulted. Many UK regional airports have installed the new high -tech scanning equipment which scraps liquid restrictions in hand luggage. However the government U-turn has caused passengers to experience huge delays, and in cases such as Birmingham, we are seeing long queues, snaking outside the terminal building, allegedly causing passengers to miss their flights. So, what can passengers do, to reduce their stress and anxiety? 1. Check the airport's website for advice on what you can and can't carry in your hand luggage 2. Check your airline's website for advice. Some airlines such as Easyjet, BA, Jet2 offer twilight check-in the night before on certain flights and in the case of Jet2, for groups of up to 6 passengers, one person from the booking can drop off all of the hold bags in the group, they must have everyone's passports and boarding passes. 3. Check in on-line at the earliest date you can, this way you can use bag drop instead of the traditional check in desks. 4. Book fast track security if there is availability. 5. Check when bag-drop opens for your flight, this can vary from 2 -3 hours or even longer. Some airlines may be opening earlier due to the delays.
