Just in the Dutch news: The minister's concern about the rise in burnout among the under-40s, with a staggering 15% increase since last year, highlights the need for immediate and concerted action. In my experience, despite its importance, resilience is often misunderstood or overlooked in many contexts. Human behavior at play It always amazes me how human behavior can be counterproductive. Look at this article by Paul Van Geyt. We all talk about having deep conversations, finding the dissenting voice, building psychological safety, and developing team reflexivity. But again and again, we see how our biases, preferences, and emotions play with us and undermine collaboration. In this example, Paul refers to research that shows how we confuse listening and agreement. It's not because someone listens well that they have to agree with what we say. And it's not because they don't agree with what we say, that they haven't listened well. But apparently, we think differently. This article shows why communication in teams is not that easy and why it is important to get it right. Alert: The article contains links to research.

From New Work to True Work About five years ago, during the “Corona-Spring,” I wrote my manifesto. It became clear to me that it’s not about New Work, but what counts for me is True Work. It took me another three years of struggles and self-doubt, working just by myself in my basement… until two years ago, I founded True Work. We are on our journey towards creating an authentic corporate world, integrating the development of people’s potential and corporate success. Together with more than ten inspiring and charismatic coaches, we provide executive coaching and leadership services across the globe. Do you have 'blob projects' too? These are projects where the scope is unclear, success is undefined, and taking the first step is like pulling teeth. A powerful trick to get a blob project done is to use the Zeigarnik effect. Here's how it works: Decide to spend exactly 15 minutes working on the blob. Use an egg timer to ensure you stop after 15 minutes. Now, the Zeigarnik effect kicks in: Our brain has difficulty dealing with unfinished tasks. It won't let go, and after 15 minutes, you'll feel a strange urge to keep going. Continue, and after spending some time doing deep work, you'll notice that you've made enormous progress on something that once seemed insurmountable. The Zeigarnik effect is one of the strangest but most effective brain hacks to overcome inertia caused by procrastination.
