Year-end reflections: How do personal values shape the way we work? At Wavin, Orbia's Building & Infrastructure (B&I) business, we explored this question through our "People of Orbia B&I" campaign. Colleagues from around the world shared how their personal values and beliefs connect to our company's purpose of "Advancing Life Around The World". The stories were all shared here, on LinkedIn, by using the hashtag #PeopleOfOrbiaBI - and they were nothing-short-of-inspiring. As 2024 concludes, we're excited to share some of these stories with you. We look forward to continuing our journey of purpose in 2025, and we wish everyone happy holidays. 🎉

  • 🌱 Project Highlight! - Smart Rain Garden in London (UK) A beautiful morning unfolded in North London as our colleague Anthony Kolanko participated in community planting, contributing to the installation of the Wavin innovative rain garden. This project is reportedly the longest continuous stretch of rain gardens in a residential area worldwide (!), marking the introduction of trees to the street for the first time since before World War I. 🌳 In total, 68 trees have been planted along with 0.5 kilometers of rain gardens, much of which will benefit from irrigation through infiltrated runoff, thanks to the sub-surface systems we've installed. If you look closely, you can see some of the irrigation lines that will be covered by mulch once the final touches are applied. 👍🏼Kudos to everyone involved in this initiative, especially the local residents who actively participated and got their hands dirty during the planting process. More details about the project can be read here: https://lnkd.in/eqKk4xT6

In 2024, our teams around the world stepped up in a big way, dedicating over 4,000 hours to make a real difference in our communities. • 🌍 Building a Sustainable Future in Construction! 🏗️Today, construction businesses must assess the environmental impact of their products and materials to achieve sustainability goals. Enter Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs): These powerful tools outline the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of products throughout their lifecycles, helping you make informed decisions. Curious about how EPDs can elevate your organization’s sustainability efforts? We are excited to announce the switch-on of our new solar panel installation at our Wavin UK Chippenham factory! This significant milestone reflects our commitment to renewable energy and sustainability. Our installation features 5,105 panels with a maximum generation capacity of 2,282.4 MW/h, leading to an impressive CO2 reduction of almost 1,600,000 kg per year. The first inverter was activated by John-Pierre McCormack, Chippenham’s dedicated sustainability project engineer. His hard work and collaboration with SolarAccess and other partners have been crucial in making this project a reality. #SustainabilityInAction

80% of land birds and 97% of reptiles and mammals on the Galapagos Islands are found nowhere else in the world. The islands are a remote and delicate ecosystem that has almost no fresh water sources. Plastigama Wavin worked in partnership with the Ecuador Water Security Coalition and Universidad San Francisco de Quito to create a closed loop water project that harvests rainwater and treats wastewater for reuse. Then, the water can be used for toilet services, irrigation and even drinking water. We can only bring change by changing things. We are taking action all over the world. That's what we mean by #SustainabilityInAction. Follow us for more positive stories. Learn more about the project: https://lnkd.in/gwMnFh3q

Water Infrastructure & Urban Climate Solutions

Last week, Mark Kievit and I had the privilege of hosting a U.S. delegation focused on Circular Neighborhood Development at the Hofbogen and Republica Wavin Polder Roof projects in Rotterdam & Amsterdam. We convened an incredible group of experts, including Shawn Wood from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Emily Freeman from the City of Boulder, Sam Fishman from SPUR, Marcus Hopper from Gensler, Jan Jongert from Superuse and Alain Romero from Vivative Ventures, Inc. .This delegation represented a cross-section of U.S. policymakers, think tanks, designers, and developers—each looking to advance circular development in their cities. It is exciting to see such passion and interest in circular (water) design from across the world and to share our work on this topic. It was a fantastic opportunity to introduce them to Orbia B&I Wavin and our circular water design solutions at two of our project sites, showcasing how these innovations are being integrated into cutting-edge building and urban projects. The future of circular water design is made possible not only through innovation but also collaboration across the broad stakeholders who are involved in bringing these projects to cities around the world 🌱 💧 🏙 . #CircularEconomy #CircularWaterDesign #Water #WaterInnovation #UrbanDesign #CircularNeighborhoods #BlueGreenRoofs #PolderRoof
