The open-air event season has recently come to an end for our team, and we’re now ready to forge new collaborations with festivals, event organizers, caterers, and restaurants for 2025. As we reflect on the passing season, we’d like to share a testimonial from our client Megan, Relationship Manager at Georgie’s Festival, with whom we had the pleasure of working on July 19-20. We provide solutions that minimize waste and promote the circular economy at festivals and other kinds of events. We build innovative, eco-friendly partnerships that help our clients achieve their sustainability goals across the Netherlands and beyond. As we prepare for 2025, we’re excited to partner with more festivals, event organizers, and caterers to bring eco-conscious solutions to life. If you’re ready to take the next step toward reducing waste and fostering a circular economy at your events, connect directly with our CEO, Beth Massa, at [email protected]. #FestivalManagement #Testimonial #CustomerExperience #Ozarka #Partnerships #ReusableContainers #SustainableSolutions

🎶 Rethinking Music Events🎶 A Path Toward Sustainable Practices ♽ This September, I joined the Zero Waste Team at Surfana Collectief for a second time at the Surfana Festival in Bloemendaal aan Zee. Working as a subco alongside Jeroen and the team at SEAVENTS - Responsible Event Solutions, as well as Beth Massa & Michael Massa at Ozarka B.V. , we focused on guiding Surfana toward a zero-waste operation. Through collaboration with Surfana and dedicated volunteers, we organised waste sorting stations, collected and separated bins, and managed disposal at our Zero Waste Station. Ozarka supported us with reusable food trays and an innovative on-site washing system that filtered and recycled water for multiple washes, reducing waste even further—a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when teams come together with purpose, working locally for global impact. This approach is especially critical given the rapid rise in music festivals. The global Music Events market is growing steadily, fueled by demand for unique, shared experiences. However, with music festivals generating around 23,500 metric tons of solid waste annually and only 8% of recyclable waste processed correctly, the industry carries a responsibility to lead in sustainable practices. With rising demand, supportive local scenes, and increasing disposable incomes, the industry has a unique opportunity to set new sustainability standards. By prioritising zero-waste initiatives and responsible event logistics, music festivals can embody the “think global, act local” ethos, making a positive, lasting impact on both the market and the environment. Speciale shoutout aan Elten Kiene van de spoken word workshops. Zijn creativiteit en kunst, gecombineerd met zijn werk in sociale projecten in Nederland, maken een groot verschil. ACHIEVING SUSTAINABILITY THROUGH REUSE. BEHIND THE WASHING AND CLEANING PROCESS The current linear food packaging system is failing us and the planet. Globally, we produce hundreds of millions of tons of single-use food packaging waste every year. Shockingly, most of this waste ends up in landfills or incinerators, with only a tiny percentage being recycled. This recycling often means shipping waste to other countries, contributing further to environmental damage. Let’s take a look at the problem and in the video in the comment you can watch how we solve the problem. The Problem: Single-use packaging is unsustainable. It clogs our landfills, pollutes our oceans, and emits harmful CO2 when incinerated. The convenience of takeout food should not come at the cost of our planet's health. The Solution: A circular economy model rooted in reuse. This sustainable approach enables us to enjoy the food we love while significantly reducing our environmental footprint. Here’s how it works: 1. Reusable Containers: Durable, high-quality containers are used instead of single-use packaging. These containers are designed for multiple uses, making them a sustainable alternative. 2. Collection and Cleaning: After use, containers are collected, washed, and sanitized in local facilities. This reduces waste and ensures hygiene standards are maintained. 3. Redistribution: Clean containers are redistributed for reuse, creating a continuous cycle that eliminates the need for single-use packaging. Why It Matters: Switching to a reusable model can drastically cut down on waste. For example, if a single restaurant switches to reusable containers, it can prevent thousands of single-use containers from ending up in landfills each year. On a larger scale, widespread adoption of this model can lead to a significant reduction in global plastic waste. Take Action: There’s no reason we shouldn’t be able to enjoy takeout, dine out, or bring leftovers home without creating mountains of waste. By adopting a circular model, we can support our local communities, reduce environmental impact, and still enjoy the convenience of takeout food. Contact: Contact our CEO, Beth Massa, [email protected] to learn more. The “Ick” Factor: We’ve heard from a few of you that dining from reusables is sort of “ick.” Remember, in a restaurant, your mouth is not the first that fork has gone in to. Our wash and sanitation processes achieve a much higher standard than the HACCP guidelines. We prepared a video to demonstrate this approach for festivals. SUSTAINABLE FESTIVAL SUCCESS: WHAT OZARKA TRANSFORMS WITH REUSABLES. This season, we again teamed up with fantastic Dutch festivals to prove how reusables elevate the festival experience. We worked side-by-side with event organizers and waste management teams to: -simplify the customer experience (easy collection points, bussing tables, no tech getting in the way). -streamline logistics (mobile wash and sanitation to wash and redistribute reusables on-site. This reduces the amount of reusables in circulation which is better for the environment). -introduce cost-effective reusable systems (pay only for what you use). Our solutions helped festivals: -reduce waste. -improve waste management by working together with recycling and composting services. -elevate the attendee experience from like to love. CUSTOMERS LOVE YOUR FOOD MORE WHEN SERVED ON REUSABLES. Watch festival attendees sharing their opinions on Ozarka reusables. We are always balancing new habits with enhancing familiar experiences. At festivals, we section off areas into small circles or quadrants, then bus tables like in a restaurant. It’s an unexpected touch for festivalgoers and one of many examples of how we always decentralize our logistics. We call this “the circle economy in 1,000 small circles.” Our team walks casually and unobtrusively through the food truck area looking for empty reusables. We might approach a table and say, “Let me create some more space for you,“ or “Let’s make this table a little nicer.” It’s a tiny moment that surprises people in a big way. So many people appreciate it. Some people pay no attention. Both reactions are great. Plus, when people see us collecting reusables, they’re less likely to misuse them (e.g., with gum or cigarettes). This human-to-human approach has financial benefits too. By quickly retrieving reusables and washing them on-site, we maximize their use and keep them in rotation. Ozarka in action: come to the Surfana Festival and experience our approach to festival sustainability firsthand. Have you ever wondered what happens to reusable containers after an event? How is the waste sorted? Is washing and sanitizing expensive? How long does it take to prepare containers for reuse? Is it cost-effective? Let's discuss some key points related to sanitizing and washing reusable containers. 1. Geography & Travel Distance We have established washing facilities across the Netherlands. Equipped to cater to any location. Our central facility, “The Sparkle Jar,” handles wash, sanitation, and storage. We have a fully mobile and circular system, bringing washing to your location. Our energy sources are off-grid, utilizing electric cars for mobile energy grids. 2. Technology & Certifications Reusables are sorted and transported to the nearest HACCP-certified wash facility. Ensures control over critical points in product preparation. 3. Resource Usage (Energy, Fuel, CO2) Decentralized logistics and infrastructure, creating “the circle economy in 1000 small circles.” Mobile wash stations use renewable energy and purified, recirculated wash water. Achieves a 100% circular process, providing additional environmental benefits. The best part is that you don't have to worry about any of this; just enjoy your event and the contribution to a better environment. If you have been considering utilizing reusable containers for your event, now is the perfect time to get started! Ozarka's full-circle solution minimizes risks, costs, and travel distance. When selecting the right crockery for serving food—whether ceramic plates or single-use plastics—it's essential to prioritize quality, portion accuracy, convenience for serving hot, cold, or liquid dishes, minimal waste, and reasonable cost. After analyzing chefs' preferences for food packaging, we’ve developed a solution that meets all these needs. Let’s take a closer look. Materials Ozarka’s food containers are crafted from the highest quality polypropylene. We partner with a variety of European suppliers, ensuring top-tier manufacturing. Assortment Ozarka offers a vast selection of container types in a wide range of sizes and shapes. Need transparent containers? Long shelf life? Let’s have a conversation, and we’ll show you the containers that suit your needs. Delivery We deliver containers across the Netherlands to any catering location, festival, or food truck spot. Most of the time, our delivery costs are included in our per-usage fee. Our invoices are simple and transparent. Collection and Waste Management We collaborate with you to implement the right collection solutions for your event. We prioritize human-focused behavioral design over requiring you and your customers to adopt new technology. Visual Appeal and Practicality Ozarka's reusable containers are designed to enhance food presentation with their sleek, high-quality materials. Unlike disposable containers, which often lack sophistication, or ceramic ones, which are heavy and fragile, our containers strike the perfect balance between aesthetics and practicality. Cost-Effectiveness Our per-use fees are comparable to what you’re already paying for premium single-use disposables. Got questions? Let’s talk. We understand the challenges of transitioning from disposable to reusable food packaging. That's why we've developed a full-circle solution that minimizes changes to the chef and caterer's work life. Here's what we do: • Deliver containers for each kind of meal to the location of your event. The cost per use is between 0.2 to 0.5 EUR, the same as for premium disposables. • Calculate the quantity and charge for the containers you used, not what was brought. No extra effort is required from you. • Install the right collection system for you. • Wash the containers at HACCP-certified washing facilities. • Sanitize and prepare them for the next day's use. Our relationship with the food served on reusables is different from that with disposables. When serving dishes with lots of sauce or syrup, a reusable with tall sides is necessary to prevent spills as customers walk away from the food truck. Sugar and oil can be challenging. We work with food truck caterers to show them what remains on the plates or in the bowls. This helps them save money — “No one is eating all the sesame oil, soy sauce, or Nutella you’re putting on the plate. You might want to use less” This also makes it easier for us to clean the reusables, as there is less food waste to scrape into the compost bin. We are in this together with the food trucks, and our GFT waste management partners. A special mention goes to our reusable pizza trays. Everyone dislikes dealing with greasy, large, and unwieldy pizza boxes. Reusable pizza trays are much easier to handle. Our announcement about introducing reusable pizza trays went viral, not just because of the environmental impact, but because of the common frustration of managing a greasy cardboard pizza box. Ozarka is all about enhancing personal experiences with reusables. Here’s what we focus on: 1. Your interactions with people using the reusables. 2. Feedback from managers or organizers, including their motivations to work with Ozarka. 3. Whether people were surprised or impressed. 4. The types of food served in our containers.
