Living Lorels was presented for the first time during Dutch Design Week, at the Fashion Tech Farm of Marina Toeters. These are the first two experiments in collaboration with Loe Feijs in which we investigate the possibilities of bringing textiles to life. Through combining new technologies with textile craftsmanship, we are exploring the revaluation of our textile surroundings.

Designer Brittany Thorpe, een van de exposanten tijdens Dutch Design Week in de Fashion Tech Farm, focust in haar onderzoek en praktijk op neurodiversiteit. Haar inspiratie was haar nichtje, die autisme bleek te hebben. Zij realiseerde zich daardoor dat ze de mens in het ontwerp nooit centraal had gesteld, en vroeg zich af hoe ze beter kon ontwerpen voor mensen die extra gevoelig zijn voor prikkels van buitenaf. HOE MODE ONDERSTEUNEND KAN ZIJN VOOR MENSEN EN WERELD De Fashion Tech Farm op de Dutch Design Week is een ontmoetingsplek voor studenten, ontwerpers en ondernemers. Rianne Coppelmans, directeur creatief vakmanschap, en ik genieten van de gesprekken met studenten van o.a. Summa, Fontys Hogeschool, Technische Universiteit Eindhoven en SintLucas. De getoonde projecten laten zien hoe mode met technologie de mensen, dieren en de wereld kan ondersteunen. Onze Summa student van International Fashion Josje Plantinga loopt stage bij Marina Toeters, co-founder Fashion Tech Farm. Josje licht gepassioneerd de meer dan 40 projecten toe. Enkele voorbeelden van toegepaste mode vakkunde: 1. Kleding voor neurodivergente individuen door Brittany Thorpe 2. Eco-Lume door Aniek Goossens (TUe), een opklapbare lamp om verpakkingskosten te besparen 3. Gebruik je al je spieren? Dit pak met sensoren maakt duidelijk welke spieren je wel of niet gebruikt door Denza Zeevenhoven (TUe) 4. Fashion Tech Walk, mode ontworpen door studenten van Summa en Fontys Ik raad je aan om zelf te gaan kijken en je te verwonderen. We’re only two days in and it has already been an incredible experience! Over the first weekend of the Dutch Design Week at Manifestations I met a lot of wonderful people and had many great conversations on the current state of fashion. It does seem there is a consensus around the fact that the status quo must change drastically. Huge thanks to VPRO for highlighting my fellow artists and me as the number 1 tip to visit! https://lnkd.in/eHjHmjf2 Over the coming week I hope to inspire a lot more people to think twice before they buy their next outfit, but also when they decide to get rid of one. The discussion on (second hand) fashion is an incredibly difficult and nuanced conversation where there is not one simple solution, but we can start by buying less and buying better. It takes all of us to take action to truly make an impact. So let’s make more conscious decisions and support sustainable ecosystems globally towards a truly sustainable and decolonised future of fashion!
