🌱 This Dutch Design Week, we welcomed Julia Watson as a beacon of DDW. The author of Lo—TEK: Design by Radical Indigenism shared her insights in a sold-out talk at the Van Abbemuseum. You can now watch Lo-TEK: Infrastructures for an Ancestral Future online, moderated by Max de Ploeg. Watson explores how Traditional Ecological Knowledge and indigenous knowledge systems open sustainable pathways for the future, rooted in a relational understanding of complex ecosystems. Drawing from her first book and an upcoming release, Watson also made a powerful call for developing frameworks with indigenous communities to reward them (in any way they would want to) for sharing the land knowledge and climate mitigation policies they have developed over centuries. 👉 bit.ly/4fN4rsr

Dutch Design Week is the quality stage for the design of the future and the future of design.
Over ons
In October of each year, Dutch Design Week (DDW) takes place in Eindhoven. One of the most influential design events, it presents work and ideas of more than 2600 designers to 335,000 visitors from home and abroad. From 19-27 October 2024, DDW24 will be back to inspire and connect design professionals and enthusiasts. DDW is different from other design events, because it concentrates on the designs of the future and the future of design. Although during the event every imaginable discipline and aspect of design is on offer, the emphasis is on experiment, innovation and cross-overs. Exceptional attention each year goes to work and development of young talent. #DDW24: 19 - 27 October 2024 Read more: www.ddw.nl/about-ddw FOLLOW, LIKE & SHARE More Dutch Design Week? And the winner of Dutch Design Awards 2024 Public Award is...
🏆 After counting the votes, we’re thrilled to announce that Auke Bleijhas won the Dutch Design Awards Public Award, as chosen by visitors of Dutch Design Week! 🧡 Auke is the co-founder of Respyre—a specially developed concrete that fosters moss growth, transforming urban surfaces into green infrastructure. The moss filters air to improve quality and helps regulate building temperatures. He was spotlighted by Bob Hendrikx in DDA24: Young Designers Past & Present. 🐑 The one-of-a-kind trophy, designed by Christien Meindertsma and produced in real-time in the exhibition by the FLOCKS Wobot using discarded European wool, marks a full-circle moment; Christien was the very first Young Designer award winner at DDA back in 2008. ⚡️Auke proudly took the trophy home Thursday night after a cozy evening with leading designers and fresh talent, moderated by Evelien Reich and supported by EY Nederland and Keep an Eye Foundation 📸 1,3 Max Kneefel 2 Anwyn Howarth
