Today, December 3rd, is the UN International Day of People with Disabilities. A day to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities and care needs. 👩🦯 👨🦽 We would like to take the opportunity to highlight the need for inclusive age-friendly environments that are accessible to all people. That is what we as #AFEdemy strive to accomplish. 🏙️ However, the environment alone cannot fulfil all needs. It’s the people that are in it that really make a difference. So, as an extension, we would like to emphasize the amazing role that informal caregivers have in providing love, care, and support to individuals with disabilities and care needs. ❤️ Being an informal caregiver can be challenging and demanding. Project #YoungCare therefore aims to promote strategies for relieving the situation of informal caregivers and people in need of care in the age of 18-65. This will be done by giving a voice to informal carers and care receivers, by raising awareness on their position, and by co-creating an online platform with information, links, and tools to help their situation. Today, December 3rd 2024 it is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The theme for this year is "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future". We believe that we need strong leadership of the people with disabilities since they can help to make our public space, our shops and for instance restaurants accessible for all by testing them and giving advice what is needed to change the current situation. In the picture is shown that there are still situations that are not accessible for everyone. This is just one of the many examples that people with disabilities face every day. Together with our partners Stichting Voorall and Dito vzw and their engaged people with disabilities we develop a toolkit and training for testing the accessiblity of the public environment in our project #Testteams4ALL. Join us and follow our project. We aim to have an international workshop about the toolkit and training in September 2025. Two weeks ago, the new SACRED project was kicked off in Rotterdam! 💡 Funded by the Erasmus+ programme for higher education, our initiative aims to create an E-Learning Platform for healthcare students and professionals, focusing on caring for older adults with dementia and multiple forms of disabilities (also called multimorbidity). 🎓 As a partner of the project, AFEdemy will be mainly responsible for developing an appealing e-learning platform for imparting knowledge on dementia and multimorbidity care. Moreover, AFEdemy will be involved in the sharing and communication activities. 📲 To stay tuned about the project's progress, you are invited to have a look at the project website, follow its different social media channels, or read the latest news item on our AFEdemy.eu: 👉 SACRED Website: https://sacredproject.eu/ 👉 SACRED Instagram: https://lnkd.in/ek5AZ5Ac 👉 SACRED LinkedIn: https://lnkd.in/eqjVaY5j 👉 SACRED Facebook: https://lnkd.in/eQuTRuWv 👉 News item on the AFEdemy website: https://lnkd.in/esW_RTvx
From 12th to 14th November 2024, the first official SACRED meeting was held at the Hogeschool and Veldacademie in Rotterdam! SACRED is the abbreviation for Sharing And Caring for at-Risk Elderly with Dementia or Disabilities. The initiative aims to create an E-Learning Platform for healthcare students and professionals, focusing on caring for older adults with dementia, and multiple forms of disabilities (multimorbidity). The project leverages digital tools to provide accessible and comprehensive education for preparing (future-)caregivers across Europe with best practices and evidence-based knowledge for immediate and long-term improvements in elderly care. For the kick-off meeting, all nine European partners came together to discuss the project process and the various work packages. All organisations got to know each other more closely and were introduced to the advisory board, which consists of various experts who will monitor and support the success of the project. Finally, the consortium also gained practical insights into how to deal with dementia, where we spoke to the organisers of dementia-friendly exhibitions at the Natural History Museum in Rotterdam. As a further item on the agenda, the consortium received a practical presentation from Vincent van Meijenfeld, who, as the director of a care facility in Zeeland, reported on the relevance of tailored care for people with dementia according to the so-called STIP method. In summary, the meeting showed the great potential of the project as well as the high motivation of the whole consortium. Together, we are determined to enable a professional understanding of dementia-friendly care and multimorbidity! 📣 For those who have been following the proceedings of the #sireneproject, we have some exciting news to share: the article we've been working on was recently published in volume 63 of Technium Social Sciences Journal! The article focuses on the ‘Transnational Local-sphere Model’; a theoretical framework describing the possible interactions between actors, sectors, institutions, and ecosystems to foster economic and social development. The model is based on previous helix frameworks, but aims to connect a network of stakeholders through existing local social innovation ecosystems. Interested? Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/eszBnHSt 🧜♀️ The model derives from research that was done in light of the SIRENE project. SIRENE supports the growth of social innovation actors in eco-friendly and sustainable community-based services for SHAFE implementation in Europe, by providing a workable framework for investment. Find out more on the website: https://sireneproject.eu/. 🙏 Many thanks to all who collaborated in the SIRENE project for making this possible and for ensuring the success of the project in general! ✅ Today (October 29) is the International Day of Care and Support (https://lnkd.in/eebg7xia). 💌 We would like to take this opportunity to highlight the remarkable role that informal caregivers fulfil in our society. In the Netherlands 5 million people provide care for their loved-ones on a regular basis. Unfortunately, support measures for this group of heroes are lacking. As a result, many of our ‘mantelzorgers’ experience stress, burn-outs, and mental health problems. 📢 Project #YoungCare aims to relieve the pressure on informal caregivers by providing a compendium illustrating needs and gaps, an e-learning platform with information and tips, and policy recommendations to improve support systems. ▶️ Find out more on the project website: https://youngcare.eu/.
