On May 3, 2023, the Nigerian government approved the National Blockchain Policy to establish a blockchain-based economy promoting secure transactions, efficient data sharing, and seamless value exchange among individuals, businesses, and government entities. This policy seeks to improve innovation, transparency, and foster growth across various sectors, contributing to nationwide prosperity. Also, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is spearheading the coordination, with a multi-sectoral Steering Committee overseeing implementation efforts, while the federal government seeks to enhance data protection and national security. The initiative forms part of Nigeria’s broader strategy to transition to a digital economy, diversify away from oil and gas dependency, and strengthen its position in the global digital space.
