Here are three key points that highlight the anticipated trajectory of Malaysia's economy in the coming years. 1. Domestic Economy The #Malaysian_economy is expected to maintain a growth rate of between 4.5% and 5.5% in 2025, reflecting a stable yet normalized pace compared to previous years. The government's latest forecast indicates that GDP growth will be influenced by a more balanced economic environment, as the technical boost from the low base effect diminishes. Additionally, inflation is projected to range from 2% to 3.5%, primarily driven by the government's plan to rationalize subsidies, particularly for #RON95 petrol. This adjustment may impact consumer prices, but it is also a necessary step towards creating a more sustainable economic model. 2. Public Sector Finance Public sector finance will play a crucial role in supporting economic growth. The government has allocated RM86 billion for development expenditure (DE), which is projected to grow by 4.9%. Notably, the construction sector is expected to thrive, with an anticipated expansion of 9.4% driven by various public infrastructure projects. Furthermore, Malaysia's fiscal deficit is on a downward trajectory, expected to decline to 3.8% of GDP in 2025, compared to 4.3% in 2024. With a projected increase in direct tax collection by 6.6%, reaching RM188.8 billion, and an increase in operating expenditure by 4.2%, the government's financial strategies appear well-aligned with its growth objectives. 3. Moving Forward Looking ahead, there are no significant surprises in the economic outlook, but the implications for specific sectors are noteworthy. The #construction sector stands out as a clear beneficiary of the increased #development expenditure, optimizing opportunities for growth and job creation. Additionally, the consumer sector is likely to benefit from the planned rationalization of the RON95 subsidy, which is expected to take effect in mid-2025. This, coupled with financial aid and cash assistance initiatives, is projected to enhance consumer demand across both staple and discretionary goods, fostering an environment conducive to overall sector growth. In conclusion, as Malaysia navigates the economic landscape of 2025, the combination of #strategic_government initiatives and sector-specific #opportunities will be pivotal in shaping a resilient and #dynamic_economy. Why digital health? I get this question a LOT. How did I get here. I never intended to become an IT expert, let alone a Digital Health Subject Matter Expert (SME). Dia macam tiba-tiba ehh kat mana ni 😆 No la just kidding (it was a long journey) What I can recall is that, actually all I wanted was to automate my workflows - ESPECIALLY doing roster 🥲 hated it. I felt like my precious time was better spent on treating patients rather than having to stare at the excel spreadsheet calculating hours. And since then, I kept on exploring new things everyday. Many asked me, how can you learn IT? My answer always, "I can ace medical school, learning new stuff is not an issue 😅" Belajar je lah kan? Apa susah hahaha. Apparently, doctors with IT mind is a rare breed. Hence, if you are a doctor and wanted to explore digital health, welcome to the club! Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad today revealed that the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) is among the investors in the government’s Rakan KKM initiative, which aims to establish “premium economy” facilities in public hospitals. During his policy-level wind-up speech on Budget 2025 in the Dewan Rakyat, Dzulkefly clarified that Rakan KKM is not a privatisation effort, as funding will come from government-linked investment companies (GLICs) such as EPF, rather than from privately owned companies. Dzulkefly explained that this funding model marks a shift away from relying on taxpayer-funded government resources. “Let me simplify it: this is not a private wing or full-paying patient system like those already implemented by MOH or MOHE,” Dzulkefly said in response to questions from Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii. “It is a partnership in three or four components. First is MOH itself. This means MOH specialists, this is why it’s very specialist-driven and health care worker (HCW)-driven, staff-driven. That’s one. The second is MOH itself as a ministry. The NSRF is about making sustainability data more consistent, reliable, and globally comparable. Think of it as a universal language that helps companies—whether local or international—present their data in a way everyone understands. Here are my 4 Key Takeaways: 1. Standards Aligned with IFRS: NSRF follows IFRS S1 (General Requirements for Sustainability Disclosures) and IFRS S2 (Climate-Related Disclosures). This brings Malaysia in line with global sustainability standards! 2. Who’s Impacted: The NSRF will be introduced gradually: Group 1: Main Market listed companies with RM2 billion or more in market cap must start reporting by 2025. Group 2: Main Market companies below RM2 billion report by 2026. Group 3: ACE Market and non-listed companies with revenues over RM2 billion begin in 2027. 3. Transition for Existing Reporting Standards: If you’re already using GRI or TCFD, you might get a 3-year exemption. But after that, everyone’s expected to fully adopt IFRS S1 & S2. The goal? Consistent reporting across the board. 4. Assurance by 2027: By 2027, companies must have third-party verification for Scope 1 and 2 emissions, with Scope 3 to follow later. Just like financial audits, this ensures the data is credible and trustworthy. Key Insights on IFRS S1 & S2: Risk Management Disclosure (IFRS S1): Companies need to reveal how they manage sustainability risks and opportunities. Example: A construction company managing climate-driven material shortages to keep projects on track. Impact on Financial Position (IFRS S2): Businesses must explain how climate risks will impact their financial outlook. Example: A retail chain facing RM470,000 in annual flood prevention costs due to rising flood risks. Scenario Analysis (IFRS S2): Companies must assess different climate scenarios. DR.MATA is designed to detect and diagnose diabetic retinopathy, delivering significant benefits such as early detection, improved accessibility, and enhanced patient outcomes.
