My 60+ year old mother was handed this flyer at a market in Geylang and personally, I feel this isn't the best move.. To quote an article I wrote in 2017 on branding the higher education and CET arms separately to avoid brand dilution. "Leveraging on the existing brand means less time (and money) is required to build up authority and trust in the market. However, relying too much on the core brand might erode or break any existing associations with the brand and affect brand equity. In the '60s, Cadbury, which is famous for chocolate launched a successful mashed potato product. Despite the success of this new product, the company sold this segment off as it led to brand dilution and affected the association with Cadbury being a premium chocolate company." In this context, #JCUSingapore is a price leader in the private education institute segment with one of the highest tuition fees and has built itself up a more "premium" option as the only Australian institution with "university" status in Singapore. For those who don't know, the use of the word "university" is restricted in the PEI segment, so JCU being able to call itself a university is actually an anomaly and a great signal. So having a CET arm and calling it James Cook Institute already dilutes the brand and handing out Chinese language flyers in Geylang offering $60+ courses isn't great for the core university brand which I suppose brings in much more revenue. It's been a month since I kicked off the mid-year checkpoint for District 51 this term, starting from November 2024. We began with the District Officers Training (similar to Head of Departments) on 9 & 10 Nov 2024, with tremendous support from Past Leaders Kiang Faang Pyng, KK Chee, CY Chung, TLI Chair (Head of Learning & Development) Grace Chan and the team — Helen Teoh , Tharmizy, and Steven Wee — along with the Club Growth extended team: Khian Kwong Lim, Sawiah Jusoh , and David Li. During this session, we reviewed the performance of the past four months, comparing it to our targeted goals. Gaps were identified, and strategic plans were put in place to achieve them. The following weekends were filled with mid-year check-ins with the club leaders from the eight Divisions under my care. The travel between KL and Penang was undoubtedly demanding, but every trip was worth it as I supported back-to-back training sessions nearly every weekend. I am deeply grateful for the unwavering support of Program Quality Director (Education) Radzi and Club Growth Director (Marketing) Huei Ying Lim , who have always been by my side. I am delighted that the following goals were successfully checked off during this series of mid-year trainings: ➡️Alignment on Goals: Ensuring that we are all on the same page about our strategic objectives. ➡️Celebrating Achievements: Taking the time to recognize the milestones and successes we’ve achieved together. ➡️Identifying Challenges: Addressing roadblocks and obstacles that may have hindered progress. ➡️Resource Assessment: Evaluating whether we have the necessary tools and support to meet our goals. ➡️Enhancing Work Experience: Gathering feedback to improve our work environment and job satisfaction. This leadership journey with Toastmasters has deepened my insights on how to lead and inspire a team toward achieving our goals. Can we have our money back please? "NParks, MOE possibly overpaid contractors, among other lapses: Auditor-General’s Office report". Unlike other countries in ASEAN who would cover this up, Singapore publicises its own lapses to assure the public that every dollar is being accounted for. Good to see that the AG has found that government offices may have over paid for work and I presume will be getting it back. This also stops or at least uncovers any potential corruption which I presume is what this is intimating? This is what MNCs love about being based here, that we have a stable and responsible government looking after the dollars and rooting out any kind of corruption. Maybe they should do an audit on the money the government spends on hosting frivolous sporting and musical events? $1.9m seems small compared to the $100m being spent putting swimming pools in car parks for the World Swimming Games next year......but hey maybe that's beyond their remit? That way lies many rabbit holes from the Grand Prix to Taylor Swift, the loss making Rugby Sevens to the loss making LIV Golf all funded by the taxpayer through STB/EDB and the like. Three years ago, my professional path took an unexpected yet profoundly rewarding turn. As I got linked with Eudaimonia Sdn. [Gen Z in Workplace: Bridging Generational Gap] As more and more Gen Zs are breaching the working industry, workplaces have experienced changes over the years. One of the most prominent is how Gen Zs have acted as the bridge in workplace intergenerational teamwork. With the rapid evolution of technology and media, Gen Zs must have been familiar with handling social media exposure, as they are the ones that are the most exposed to the existence of social media itself. Hence, I can lead a team in building social media branding. Not only that, when talking about mental health awareness, Gen Zs have also shown the importance of taking care of mental well-being in a work setting. This comes in examples like having Mental Health Days and creating dialogues when they struggle at work. Both of these points show how Gen Zs can contribute in a workplace setting, with their knowledge, skills, and awareness that might have just grown within their generation. It is definitely a privilege to be able to experience the advanced technologies we have and gain information from greater sources. Taking actions such as contributing to digital transformation, promoting mental wellness, driving creative marketing strategies at work, and so much more, can show Gen Zs wide range of ability. Hence, it is time to make a positive contribution to the working industry, to create a healthy and innovative workplace, especially in the ASEAN region. IMDA has launched the first AI Playbook for Small States, in collaboration with Rwanda’s Ministry of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Innovation. It was unveiled by Minister for Digital Development and Information, Mrs Josephine Teo at the United Nations Summit of the Future. Developed through the Digital Forum for Small States, which Singapore convenes, the Playbook is aimed at driving inclusive global AI discourse, offering guidance and best practices tailored to the unique needs of smaller nations in harnessing AI's potential. As a key player on the global stage, we are proud to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through this initiative, together with Rwanda. This playbook is a living resource that will be periodically updated, gathering insights and best practices from small states around the world. Early morning annoyance by Grab Operations. Terminal pickup the pickup location keeps on changing sending me in circles burning up petrol. One of the interfering tactics used to deplete fuel, touch n Go including out of city bookings to get me out of the way of Socio Economic advise implementation. Put on alternative GPS routing on another phone. Side by side comparison, one goes one way the grab app going round in circles. Must have a 3rd phone or cam on my dash to record this next it happens. I refused an out of city trip this morning rm50 the tempting carrot. Grab must think their drivers are stupid. ALL performing drivers can acquire rm50 an hour forget 1 hr trips out of the city without trip back. Same economics with KLIA.. Send passengers to KLIA RM50 driver gets then must remain in queue for return trip... Some up to 6 hrs.. The first driver I spoke to before I started with grab.. "Send can, wait in queue forget it, go putrajaya, cyber Jaya easily 50 per hour, what for wait get nothing for 6 hrs?" I double back to demand zones back to city, at times going offline totally, after dropping klia passengers, at times declining klia drops used by ops to get me out of the way of Govt Socio Economic advise FUBAR implementation/interpretations. Even declining some certain service types grab ops forces bookings onto driver apps to service, consuming time, fuel and toll compromising fluency of driver driving through the day, especially picking up and delivering packages where the driver is required to park and go up and down lifts to collect and deliver packages, instead of driving pickup/drop off passengers. So much for Grab improving taxi drivers livelihoods 🤭🤣 Interesting to hear Grab annual figures on the radio in contrast to the multitude of issues I have heard and seen since I started part time driving.

Idiotopedia Lite: (Opinion) The Art of Complications https://lnkd.in/gwnfDMFt Disclaimer: These are my personal opinions on recent econophysics studies; they encourage thought, not recommendations. When I read this article on the manufacturing PMI fall on CNBC Indonesia, I think in nerdy way through the lens of econophysics, a new area that combines physics and economics to figure out why markets are so unstable. Econophysics argues chaos is unavoidable, yet classical economics suggests stability measures. Understanding and overcoming it is harder than avoiding it. In my previous Idiotopedia article, I shared how entropy influences economic anarchy. Entropy measures system unpredictability (see from the presentation). Increasing skepticism in Indonesia's manufacturing sector increases entropy. The economy becomes unstable and yes, investors seek "safe" havens. Logically, capital leaves places projected to lose value, worsening the economic mismatch. Another key idea in econophysics is capital accumulation and power law distribution. It depicts how unorganized areas gain resources and income. I mentioned the power law distribution, which demonstrates that capital flows to safe, high-growth industries and away from manufacturing. This imbalance worsens inequality over time. Choosing adaptability over stability instead Indonesia might be better off with policies that work with its naturally unstable state instead of trying to force it to be stable. I have several opinions on this matter: 1. Capital redistribution: Policies that encourage investment in manufacturing could break up this pattern of capital concentration by spreading it out more fairly and making the economy more resilient. 2. Economic resilience: Instead of trying to reach equilibrium, it would be better to spend in infrastructure for manufacturing to make it more resistant to shocks in the future. 3. Realtime modeling: Classical models do not consider how uncertain chaotic systems are. Adaptive, data-driven methods would give a more true and adaptable picture of the economy. But the question is whether we want to be honest and declare that openly? For now, thoughts Indonesia's economy needs strength, not stability. The PMI drop suggests rethinking traditional economic paradigms. Econophysics suggests acceptance of chaos may strengthen the system. This nation has major challenges. Will it embrace it or maintain false stability? I studied these principles and their implementation in numerous ways. I see it as an excursion into the unknown that can help us realize how intricate life is.... I know what you're going to say: the macroeconomic formula is already hard, and now you're adding physics models to it? Do you really think it will be easy? The answer is NO, but have fun reading the article!
