Perihal kami
THE Institutional Investors Council Malaysia (IIC) was formed on 3 July 2015 as an investor-led organisation following the launch of the Malaysian Code for Institutional Investors (MCII) on 27 June 2014. The role played by the institutional investors has been recognised as critical in the governance ecosystem by the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and was encapsulatedas one of the recommendations in the Corporate Governance Blueprint 2011. The IIC plays an important role to represent the common interests of institutional investors in Malaysia. This industry-led initiative will be a platform to shape and influence a wider sphere of corporate governance culture through, among others, the effective adoption of the MCII. The IIC was formally established under the Societies Act 1966 on 29 December 2017. IT is the mission of the IIC to promote effective investors stewardship by influencing higher standards of corporate governance within institutional investors themselves and their investee companies through the implementation of the following objectives: 1. To represent the interests of institutional investors on matters affecting them and to act as a conduit between policymakers, regulators and institutional investors in relation to broader corporate governance issues; 2. To provide vision and strategic direction in relation to the development of the Institutional Investors Council Malaysia (IIC) and future enhancement to the Malaysian Code for Institutional Investors (MCII); 3. To advocate, provide guidance, and monitor the adoption of the MCII among institutional investors and encouraging institutional investors to become signatories of the MCII; and 4. To be the platform to influence good corporate governance culture by public-listed companies as envisaged in the Corporate Governance Blueprint 2011.

Had the privilege to represent Institutional Investors Council as a panelist for Climate Governance Malaysia’s Masterclass Series: Guide for Corporate Boards in South East Asia on Climate Action. The panel consisting of Philippe JOUBERT and Tan Sri Tommy Thomas, our ex AG covered the issue of the rising risks of climate change litigation in Malaysia, handling the transition from shareholder to stakeholder economy as well as the need for collaboration from all parties. I shared how Institutional Investors Council Code for Institutional investors covers both sustainability as a strategy and our efforts of working collaboratively is the way forward especially in light of the fact that climate change could risk South East Asian countries to lose about 15% of their GDP if the 2 degree global warming is in fact met by the end of this century. Datin Sunita Rajakumar shared that the last two years has already seen a rise of 1.6 degrees. Climate change is thus not just a mere compliance issue but truly about keeping humans alive on earth for a while longer. There is much to be done as 2030 is a mere 1880 days. Are your Boards doing enough?

The collaborative efforts between Nomura Asset Management’s Malaysian and UK teams in offering our Malaysian investors a product combining our ESG and Shariah investment philosophy and approach has finally paid off. At The Edge’s ESG Awards gala evening held recently, our Nomura Global Shariah Sustainable Equity Fund was the proud recipient of the Gold Award, recognised by The Edge and Morningstar for the best ESG Performance and Returns category 2024! I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to our colleagues who worked so hard on this, and acknowledge their unwavering dedication and commitment in ensuring that we deliver on our promises.
