Urgences-santé has confirmed that Patrick Liard will replace François Charpentier as the head of the public paramedic organization.

The provincial cabinet announced on Wednesday the interim appointment of Liard, who had been serving as assistant director of operations at Urgences-santé.

His appointment will take effect on Friday.

“We learned late this afternoon (Wednesday) that Mr. Charpentier (…) is no longer the President and CEO of Urgences-santé,” said Urgences-santé communications director Stéphane Smith in an interview with The Canadian Press.

Smith said that Liard will serve as interim leader while the organization begins the process of finding a new president and CEO as well as a new chair of the board of directors—both roles previously held by Charpentier.

However, he could not comment on the reasons behind Quebec’s decision to terminate Charpentier’s contract, which had been set to end in April 2027.

“I just received this information and have informed Urgences-santé employees, but I don’t have any further details,” added Smith. “Mr. Charpentier wrote a note to the employees, and we’ve just shared it.”

In his message to Urgences-santé employees, Charpentier thanked them and announced that Liard would be taking over, without providing details about his departure.

He had been in the role since April 2022. Urgences-santé serves the territories of Montreal and Laval.
