Just climbed down from the DevTalksRomania stage where I spoke about practical React architecture. We can build complex applications with simple patterns. And I do believe that writing “clean” code doesn’t take more time than messy code. Of course, it depends on what you see as “clean” That’s a pretty subjective term. Modular code is clean. And putting things in separate files hardly takes more time than keeping them together. Putting your domain logic away is clean. And creating an extra object is not a task that takes a lot of effort. Don’t strive for the perfect architecture. A simple common sense approach will take you far.

When I was starting with front-end development 7 years ago... Everything was messy. Literally, I didn't know where to start. And meanwhile, thousands of developers were growing excellent careers. - High salaries - Massive careers - Important networks But everything I tried didn't work. I was lost. Then, I started to reverse-engineer some of the best front-end devs I knew. What did they do differently to learn front-end development? After going deep into their past, it started to click. So armed with a strong roadmap, I recreated my learning journey. In the next 6 months, I was hired as a front-end developer. It's completely changed my career. I've added a new portfolio project to my site - "2048 Game". It's a JavaScript based single-player sliding tile puzzle game, written by Italian web developer Gabriele Cirulli. The objective of the game is to slide numbered tiles on a grid to combine them to create a tile with the number 2048. 2048 is played on a 4×4 grid, with numbered tiles that slide smoothly when a player moves them using the four arrow keys. Each time you slide, a new tile will randomly appear in an empty spot on the board. Tiles slide as far as possible in the chosen direction until they are stopped by either another tile or the edge of the grid. If two tiles of the same number collide while moving, they will merge into a tile with the total value of the two tiles that collided. The resulting tile cannot merge with another tile again in the same move. It was a great project for practising JavaScript Array and String Methods, creating a system of coordinates, and working with DOM. #frontenddevelopment #javascript #2048game #coding #portfolio #project #frontenddev #womenintech #girlswhocode

One of my favorite principles in frontend engineering: → KISS Keep It Simple Stupid. As a front-end developer I have 2 main goals: - reducing technical debt - reduce complexity How many times did you work with code written six months ago and it's complex to understand? It happened to me in the past and I hated it. That could be prevented with KISS. How do I implement KISS? ✅ reducing over-engineering of a solution → If you are asked to build a house, don't build a castle. ✅ keep code simple, readable and reusable ✅ try to follow specific pattern ✅ continuous refactoring to eliminate weird code Why complicate things when simplicity works?

Many Software devs do not grow in career because of `Developer's Ego`. 💡 Having an ego that I know everything and everyone else is stupid makes you a bigger stupid. The moment you think you know it all is the moment you stop growing. What happens when you have developer's ego? 0. You'll resist feedback, seeing it as criticism rather than a chance to improve. 1. You'll hesitate to ask questions, fearing it might make you look less competent. 2. You'll overlook others' ideas, missing out on insights that could improve the project. Let me tell you the truth. Tech is always evolving. Even the best developers can learn something new every day if they stay open and humble. Great developers aren’t those who know it all—they’re the ones who keep learning, collaborating, and growing. Remember, `Ego blocks progress. Stay curious. Webpack is a free and open-source module bundler for JavaScript. It is made primarily for JavaScript, but it can transform front-end assets such as HTML, CSS, and images if the corresponding loaders are included. Webpack takes modules with dependencies and generates static assets representing those modules.

It’s common for mid-level developers to overcomplicate things that could be simple. The transition from junior to senior involves a lot of learning and applying new concepts, which often leads to over-engineering. With experience we realize that not everything needs to be abstracted and simplicity often leads to the best solutions

What is in your opinion the hardest challenge you face when you are working on a new platform? For Casimiro Pio Carrino and I was the name of the app as we are both techies with very little creativity 😂 In the end, we have been suggested Byte the Quiz, a name that combines: - 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐞: tech quizzes (byte is 8 bits and a bit, well we all know what it is) - 𝐅𝐮𝐧 𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞: byte sounds like a bite, so fast quizzes as it is our aim. In conversations, I often notice that many developers have a reserved attitude towards tests. They mostly have a positive attitude towards unit tests, and 6 out of 10 developers use them. As for UI tests, the situation is worse — they are mostly seen in a neutral or negative way, and only 2 out of 10 use them. The main concerns are that tests take a lot of time and are difficult to maintain. 🛠️ As for me, tests are just one of the developer's tools that helps me understand that the code meets my expectations and saves more time. Some of the developments I can use only for myself, without sharing them, so I don't need to create something big. Business logic is one of the things that I would recommend covering with tests. 🧶 For example, unit tests were very useful for me when I needed to refactor a god class - it was so complex that I decided to start covering it with tests. Using tests as proof that everything works as expected, I refactored the problem class and split it into many separate classes, while preserving the main functionality. 🧭 UI tests helped me when I needed to test a feature that was deep inside an application. To save time, I used UI tests to automate navigation to my feature and reduce manual work. At the same time, I covered the logic that was important to me with tests. Tests are a useful tool, and you need to invest time and effort in them, but they have their advantages. You don't have to start with something grandiose, test what's important to you and save time. Give them a try. And what about you? Do you write tests?

𝗝𝗼𝗯 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 Unemployment rates in Germany are decreasing, and while the economy is trying to recover, the shortage in the MINT sector is evident. A simple search for app developer roles on platforms like Stepstone and Indeed highlights the current demand for app developers in Germany. There are numerous tech jobs, particularly in app development, that remain unfilled. According to a recent report from IW, there are an astounding 440,000 vacant positions in the MINT fields (Mathematics, IT, Natural Sciences, and Technology) in Germany. Many of my friends have come to Germany using the Opportunity Card to pursue developer roles, and many have successfully secured their desired positions. I often get asked about the requirements for obtaining the card or how much money needs to be blocked for it. Germany Opportunity Card is a residence permit that allows anyone from a non-EU country to live in Germany for up to one year to find a job. The good news is that the application process is straightforward, and most of you are likely eligible based on the point system or your skills. One piece of advice I always give is to consider moving to less expensive cities and staying in shared apartments (WGs) to save costs. You can also buy the €50/Month nationwide travel card if you’re on a budget. What are the requirements for an opportunity card? Option 1: You have a foreign professional or academic qualification that is recognised in Germany. You likely fall under this option. Option 2: You score a minimum of six points in the points system.
