*Job Title: General Accountant*
*Department: Accounting*
Reports To: Director of Finance
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY:
The Accounting Generalist supports the Controller’s Office in the administration of the Accounts Payable and General Accounting functions.
This position is responsible for the performance of payables, invoice management, account reconciliations and ensuring the liability accounts and general ledger account balances.
The Accounting Generalist will also support other areas within the Controller’s office and be responsible for reconciling various accounts, processing refunds, assisting with internal and external reporting, and assisting with year-end closing and audits.
RESPONSIBILITIES: * Audit data submitted by departments to identify discrepancies requiring resolution.
* Audit data submitted by departments to ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures and provide departments with appropriate guidance as necessary.
* Resolve billing issues and past due accounts.
* Review monthly vendor history, aging reports, perform variance analysis, identify issues, and submit adjusting journal entries when necessary.
* Prepare reports for agencies and vendors and submit to management for approvals.
Assist with 1099 reporting.
* Initiate and complete check runs, including processing of manual off-cycle ACH/check payments.
* Assists in preparation of various audit requests related to accounts payable from outside agencies.
* Assist with fiscal year end gathering of documentation.
* Respond to various type of inquiries and correspondence; applying functional knowledge to analyze and respond to matters requiring comprehensive knowledge of policies and procedures.
* Contact various department supervisors for any incomplete documentations, forms or issues.
* Perform various journal entries, account reconciliations including monthly bank account reconciliations, as needed.
* Process stop payments and coordinate the re-processing of ACH/checks.
* Process employee reimbursements or payments relating to employees.
* Use imaging system to archive accounting documents.
* Maintain high level of security and confidentiality of records and documents and adhere to record retention policies.
* Deliver quality customer services to both internal and external constituents in a professional, helpful, and courteous manner.
* Assist the with special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: * Five (5) years work experience in accounts payable, accounting and/or finance function required.
* Demonstrated understanding of basic accounting principles and auditing procedures is required.
* Minimum 1 year QuickBooks experience.
* Minimum 1 year experience working with 3M software.
* Demonstrated proficiency using MS Word and Excel required.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
EDUCATION: * Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: · Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish (preferred).
REASONING ABILITY: · Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with guests, associates, and external partners.
