It’s been several months since Nestle announced they were scrapping their iconic Caramac bar.

The confectionery giants confirmed it was a ‘difficult decision’ to discontinue the caramel-flavoured product, but blamed falling sales for the move.

However, their reasoning did little to appease heartbroken fans of the ‘legendary’ sweet treat. Since then, chocolate lovers have been desperately searching for something to fill the void in their shopping baskets.

Many recently thought they’d found a winner when they discovered Aldi’s Easter range for 2024 includes Belgian Blonde Chocolate Office Bunnies, which are made of Belgian blonde chocolate with a salted caramel filling.

However, a ‘top tier’ alternative to Caramac has been spotted in another major supermarket, and people are going wild over it, with some even going as far as to say it tastes ‘better’ than the original.

Customers in Tesco have been racing to buy large bars of Caramilk. And while the chocolate isn’t new, as it first launched in the UK in 2021, it seems some have only just realised it shares similarities with the discontinued favourite.

Cadbury describes Caramilk as ‘a golden blend of Cadbury white chocolate and caramelised milk powder developed for the UK & Ireland’.

They add: ‘The result is a smooth golden caramel chocolate flavour. One bite is all it takes to be converted. Made with sustainably sourced cocoa. Vegetarian friendly.’

A number of those who have been ‘converted’ shared their thoughts on social media in the last few weeks, after discovering Tesco is selling large 160g bars of Cadbury Caramilk Golden Caramel chocolate for £1.80 on Clubcard price.

Posting on Facebook, Andy Nevans said: ‘For folk like myself who were dismayed  at the news that Caramac was no longer being made.’

Meanwhile over on X (formerly Twitter), @michelle_xq proclaimed: ‘Cadbury Caramilk is top tier.’

While @BarleylandsShop said Caramilk is ‘like the yummy Caramac that’s not here anymore.’ And @JimOFlynn6 posted: ‘I’ve just been in Tesco and bought the new Cadbury Caramilk and it’s the same as Caramac if not better.’

Similarly, @smirkinkones shared: ‘Cadbury’s do a Caramilk now. It’s actually better than a Caramac as I think they’ve used real cocoa butter.’

@NeilJonesOnline added: ‘Anyone feeling nostalgic for Caramac should try a modern one, then you won’t be as sorry they’re going.’

You can also currently buy Cadbury Caramilk Buttons, 90g bars, multipacks and single bars, for those keen to try the chocolate.

And don’t panic if you don’t live near a Tesco store, as it’s also available at most other major supermarkets including Morrisons, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, ASDA, Co-op, and from Ocado.

Speaking about the discontinued Caramac bar, a spokesperson for Nestle said: ‘We are very sorry to disappoint fans of Caramac.

‘There has been a steady decline in its sales over the past few years and unfortunately we had to make the difficult decision to discontinue it.’

If you’re still looking for something different and sweet to try, then we recently discovered that B&M is selling some brand new treats, including black forest Maltesers and a Pornstar Martini-inspired Cadbury bar.
