About us
Amidst historic globalisation and digitization, modern leaders struggle to foster connection and purpose. We bring ancient wisdom to bear on this modern leadership challenge through unique, transformative leadership experiences in Africa. Safarini means "on a journey" in Swahili, and Safarini Leadership invites you on an immersive journey of self-awareness through Kenya's wild northern frontier, co-facilitated by Indigenous tribal elders and executive coaches. Amidst pristine wilderness and wildlife, you will walk, live, and learn together through cross-cultural workshops, assessments, and experiences. Your assumptions about yourself and your leadership will be challenged; your perspective widened. You will return with newfound resilience, versatility and purpose, as you reassess and reaffirm your values and recommit to creating true community with those you lead.

Succession planning can loom large for late-career founders looking to step back with confidence that their business and vision will endure. How do you ensure that the next generation is ready to take the reins; that they share your leadership values, and that these are sufficiently embedded within the DNA of the organization? Derek Humphries, Creative Director of DTV Group (Global) came to Kenya to stretch himself and reflect on these questions with elders from the Samburu Tribe, exploring and contrasting their purposeful approach to intergenerational mentorship and cultural conservation, their consistency of values, and perhaps most memorably, their sense of humour. #crosscultural #leadershipdevelopment #successionplanning #mentorship #stretch

Can a week of living, walking, and learning with northern Kenya's tribal elders influence your problem solving, self-awareness, and growth as a leader? We asked Kena J., former Silicon Valley leader turned executive coach and founder at HIRE Coaching LLC. Kena shared her reflections on her final day in Kenya with us, from the beautiful community-run Tassia Lodge. https://lnkd.in/dYyS8AG8 #leadershipdevelopment #problemsolving #culturalimmersion Safarini Leadership

In 2025, we will be delivering two transformative leadership development experiences. Through challenging camel-supported treks and powerful discussions in the heart of wild northern Kenya, we work with tribal elders to explore interconnectedness, the practices that follow, and the collective resilience that results. We have two experiences in 2025: 1) Ngare Ndare River Trek 2) Ndoto Mountain Odyssey If you are seeking connection, new perspectives, and a renewed sense of purpose, contact us at [email protected] for a consultation. Advantageous pricing for deposits paid in 2024. #culture #HumanConnection #SafariniLeadership #wilderness #adventure #challenge #growth #personaldevelopment

Thanks Kena J. for stepping outside your comfort zones, embracing uncertainty, joining a Safarini Leadership Journey and sharing your reflections here! Looking forward to exploring these insights with your cohort soon during our post-expedition sessions. Excited to see how everyone's perspectives on adaptability and resilience might be evolving.
Congratulations and huge thanks to our October 2024 cohort! Christopher Bolling, Amy N. Stiers, Karen DeCesare Doll, Psy.D., L.P., Kena J., Derek Humphries and Heidi Connal (PCC, NBC-HWC). They navigated herds of wild elephants and desert rivers, forming deep human connections that transcended cultural boundaries. There were many laughs, some tears, and relationships that will last a lifetime. Interconnectivity and a shared commitment to values and culture are the foundation of strong teams. How many of you can say that your teams are built this way? Do you feel deeply interconnected with those you lead? If not, this is your chance to witness the power of consistent values in action and the resilience that follows. It's an opportunity to connect on a profound human level and bring that sense of purpose back into your leadership practice. Discuss joining us for our 2025 June and September expeditions. Places very limited. Early bird price for deposits taken before end Nov '24. [email protected] #kenya #samburu #wilderness #digitaldetox #crossculturalcommunication #leadership

What an amazing post! Thank you Christopher Bolling. We’re so grateful you joined us for this experience and took away such powerful connections and insights. #SafariniLeadership #Naboisho #CommunityLeadership #IAmBecauseWeAre
Naboisho – Coming Together I’m just back from what was the trip of a lifetime. In the bush of northern Kenya, supported by the team Safarini Leadership, surrounded by wild game, Amy N. Stiers, Kena J., Derek Humphries, Heidi Connal (PCC, NBC-HWC), Karen DeCesare Doll, Psy.D., L.P. joined together on an expedition that surely expanded each of our worldviews. Most significantly, we left the trip as brothers and sisters. No matter which corner of the world we came from, we left as a community. In Samburu (Maa is the language), naboisho means coming together. It is also expressed as “I am because We are.” Each day, traveling with our team and Samburu elders, we explored this concept and began to live it. Everything in the Samburu culture is in support of the community. They thrive together, suffer together, learn from each other, and grow together. Cultural values are unambiguous. Every Samburu in a community knows which role they’re playing and why. When hard times strike, Samburu communities meet them together. When decisions need to be made, the elders gather to discuss the issue and reach a consensus to move forward. I am because We are. There is much to learn from a culture that shows up wholeheartedly together. The Samburu leaders we trekked with each day were all from different communities and regions, yet they were unified in their messages and values. These values allow them to thrive as a generous and kind culture under conditions of scarcity. These values allow the hearts of strangers to bind so quickly and become one with a newly formed community. For me, the measure of success for this journey was how hard it was to say goodbye. Tears did flow, and my heart is already aching to return. This journey struck me to the core of my Being, and the spirit of northern Kenya and the Samburu will live in me forever.

Thanks for all the great contributions in those workshops Kena J., HIRE Coaching LLC, and for the expert guidance on how to make them even stronger for future participants. Why we love having coaches like you on these trips 💪🏽
🦅 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑯𝒊𝒅𝒅𝒆𝒏 𝑳𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑭𝒍𝒐𝒄𝒌 𝑩𝒆𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒐𝒓 I'm always amazed by the way flocks of birds can synchronize their movements to soar in perfect formations. That's the power of group learning! 🧠 Studies show that learning with others can boost retention, increase creativity, and spark new ideas. I'm so grateful to Safarini Leadership for bringing together American, European, and Samburu leaders for cross-cultural experiences so we can all soar together! During afternoon workshops, we shared insights, challenged assumptions, and reached new heights. It's a beautiful ecosystem when each person contributes something unique to the whole. 🌱 #GroupLearning #LeadershipDevelopment #ExecutiveCoach

Thank you for sharing such kind reflections on your Journey with us, Derek Humphries. Your executive leadership experience in the social impact sector shone through in your open and empathetic approach to engaging the Samburu leaders and their radically different leadership approach. We hope that the inspiration you drew from those experiences provides value to your succession planning, and we look forward to exploring the same in our upcoming group coaching sessions.

Very proud to have helped realize your dream of Africa, Karen DeCesare Doll, Psy.D., L.P., but equally grateful to have had you as part of this cohort. Your group coaching experience and understanding of psychological fitness and mental health provided a fascinating lense through which to explore different cross-cultural leadership topics. It was a pleasure seeing you develop such depth of understanding and connection with our team of Samburu elders, and your love of wildlife was infectious!
