🇿🇲 On 23rd August, Apollo Agriculture, along with our insurance partners, Pula and PICZ Insurance Company, facilitated a significant ZMW 78 million insurance payout in Zambia. This marks a pivotal moment for Apollo-registered small-scale farmers affected by the severe 2023/2024 drought. The event in Mumbwa district was attended by notable figures, including Apollo co-founder Benjamin Njenga, Ministry of Agriculture Director- Dr. Shepande Chizumba, District Commissioner- Namukolo Hayumbu, and Chief Mumba. 👩🌾 Farmers who received the payouts expressed their gratitude for the essential relief and hope provided in the aftermath of the drought’s devastating impact. With the support of our insurance partners, we have been able to reduce the risk for farmers who suffered crop losses due to severe drought, ensuring their resilience and continued success. 🤝 Looking ahead, Apollo Agriculture, in collaboration with the Zambian government and our partners, is committed to building a future where every Zambian farmer can achieve unmatched prosperity and contribute even more significantly to the nation’s wellbeing. Plagued by droughts and hampered by a lack of resources like fertilizer or seeds, many farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa are falling behind. Raised on a one-acre farm in a remote corner of Kenya, it’s a problem Benjamin Njenga saw firsthand — and then set out to solve. Today, he serves as the co-founder and chief customer officer of Apollo Agriculture, a company that’s leveraging AI, satellite data, and mobile commerce to help small-scale farmers just like his mother increase productivity and profitability. “The beauty with Apollo is that the more successful the farmers we serve, the more successful we are,” Njenga says. 🌱 At Apollo Agriculture, our mission is to help small-scale farmers achieve more profitable harvests and foster sustainable livelihoods. In support of this mission, we had the pleasure of working alongside H.E. Dr. Jonathan Bii, the Governor of Uasin Gishu county, to launch high-value crops in the region. Benjamin Njenga, our Managing Director and Co-Founder at Apollo Agriculture, reaffirmed our commitment to supporting the county government. Together, we are exploring ways to assist these farmers as they transition from conventional low-ROI farming to achieving better yields per acre. We also recognize that many farmers were affected by the recent floods. At Apollo, we invested Ksh 5M to support all affected Apollo farmers across the country. We were honored to have H.E. Dr. Jonathan Bii distribute this support to Apollo farmers who were impacted. At Apollo, we not only provide our farmers with essential inputs but also offer the requisite insurance to protect them against any eventualities that may affect their yields.
