The aviation industry is committed to achieving #NetZero carbon emissions by 2050. Rolls-Royce is focusing on three key pathways: improving engine efficiency, demonstrating compatibility with 100% #SAF and evaluation of alternative energy solutions. 8月21-22日に「Rolls-Royce & BAE Systems サイエンスキャンプ2024」の決勝大会が開催され、予選を突破した4校26名が岐阜県立岐阜高校に集結、独自に開発した小型ホバークラフトの性能を競いました。また、学生同士の交流を通じてお互いの開発から得た学びを共有したり、ロールス・ロイスとBAE Systems両社の現役エンジニアから、開発のアドバイスや業界の興味深いエピソード、エンジニアのキャリアを選んだ背景や現在の業務について聞いたりと、体験と座学を含む充実した１日となりました。 The Rolls-Royce & BAE Systems Science Camp 2024 finals were held on 21-22 August. Twenty-six students from four schools competed on the performance of their unique model hovercraft programmed with automatic controls. The programme also encompassed focused student exchanges to share each other’s learnings. 6月22日に「Rolls-Royce & BAE Systems サイエンスキャンプ2024」のオンライン予選会が開催され、日本各地からの参加者がオンラインで集結しました。2017年から開催しているロールス・ロイス サイエンスキャンプに今年はBAEシステムズが加わり、更に充実したプログラムとなっております。14チーム79名の高校生が独自のホバークラフトを試行錯誤しながら開発し、今年も個性的な作品が揃いました。予選を突破した4チームは、今後2カ月をかけてプログラミングによるホバークラフトの制御に挑戦し、8月の決勝大会に臨みます。 The participants of the Rolls-Royce & BAE Systems Science Camp 2024 gathered online for a qualifying round on 22 June, calling in from all across Japan. Rolls-Royce has been holding Science Camps for high school students since 2017, and this year we welcome BAE Systems as a co-host of the programme. 14 teams comprising 79 high school students developed their hovercrafts through a rigorous process of trial and error, and four teams were selected to qualify. They will now spend a further two months programming their crafts for movement control before competing against each other at the final competition in August. ロールス・ロイスは、日本のイージス・システム搭載艦に、世界初のツインMT30ハイブリッド電機機械推進システムの採用が決定したと発表しました。 MT30は、もがみ型護衛艦を含む、世界で最も先進的なプラットフォームの多くに搭載され、その出力と推進力は造船会社やシステム設計者に新たな選択肢と将来性を提供しています。 Rolls-Royce has been selected to supply the world’s first twin MT30-powered hybrid electro-mechanical propulsion arrangement to power Japan’s Aegis System Equipped Vessel (ASEV), a Japanese destroyer programme. In the 60 years since we opened our Tokyo office, we have continued to lead the defence engine market and support Japan's defence programmes, with our engines being used in both aircrafts and ships.
