Here are my top 5 takeaways: ➡➡➡➡➡ 📣 1. Platforms are the new search engines. People will find you there more than google. Read that again. You need to be seen where your audience is. I have actually heard that twice in 24 hours. 📣 2. 80/20 rule. 80% is value 20% is promotion. To build an engaged community 80% of your content should be giving value. Stop selling all the time. 📣 3. Shares and saves are the biggest metrics to measure - don't obsess over the number of followers you have OBSESS over the engagement you have. 📣 4. Organic social media is hard - it won't happen overnight. Be consistent. 📣 5. You can't rinse and repeat. What works on Instagram can't be regurgitated for Tik Tok. You need to curate for different channels. Is your brand addicted to the discounting drug? 💊 A few weeks back I was listening to Chloë's pod, The eCommerce MasterPlan, which featured Matthew Henton of Moss who talked about the brand’s pivot from an over reliance on discounting to a focus on premium quality as the primary value exchange between the brand and its customer. It got me thinking about the number of DTC brands I'd encountered over the past 12 months, who’s year-round addiction to the discount drug was creating a barrier for brand building and profitable growth. Firstly, how can discounting be an effective tactic when used sparingly: → Discounting allows brands to compete more effectively in key sale moments like BFCM, and acquire new customers at a more cost effective rate → It can also help you shift excess inventory and improve cash flow When discounting underpins the way in which brands trade all year round, is can create some challenges. Fundamentally, year-round discounting causes your business to focus on the wrong things: Trading becomes more about when the next sale period, is the discount/promotion as strong as the last and do we have enough inventory - instead of focusing on delivering a quality product, brand building and brilliant digital and customer experiences. But there are many, many more reasons. An over reliance on year round discounting: → is margin destructive → creates peaks and troughs revenue and profit  → trains customers to only spend when there’s a sale running → it doesn’t always attract the best quality customers → reduces the perceived value of your product → makes it very difficult to position yourself as premium or luxury In tomorrow's video, we'll take a look at a few solutions for moving a brand away from an over-reliance on year-round discounting.
