The inspiration for this research isn’t new, it’s been ingrained in me since my early days. I still remember my second year of graduation when I presented on a topic that was quite ahead of its time. Little did I know that my curiosity and drive for research would later lead me to numerology and metaphysical sciences. ✅From presenting research papers at various centers and universities to other conferences, this moment is a culmination of years of passion and persistence. Women should live the way they like！ A working woman, after experiencing a career bottleneck, bravely changed careers and pursued her dreams. She began to study painting and eventually turned it into a side business, adding colour and joy to her life. This spirit of courageously pursuing oneself is worth learning for every woman. There are many ways for women to achieve their ideal life. First of all, mental health is crucial. Maintaining a positive attitude, learning to reconcile with oneself, and accepting an imperfect self can help us better cope with the challenges in life. Studies have shown that mental health directly affects our physical health and quality of life, so regular psychological counselling and adjustment are particularly important. Maintaining a good lifestyle is also an important part. A balanced diet, moderate exercise and sufficient sleep are the basis for improving the quality of life. Nourishing our bodies in a healthy way gives us the strength to pursue the life we desire. Women should build a good social circle, support each other and grow together. Social relationships have a significant impact on mental health. Exchanging ideas with like-minded friends and sharing the joys and pressures of life can strengthen emotional connections and enhance mutual understanding and support. No matter what stage of life you are in, living your own way first requires an understanding of your own needs and desires. Women must be brave enough to work hard for their dreams and refuse to set unnecessary limits on themselves. Next time when you say that people need to rekindle their childhood curiosity, your statement will have more depth with this insight. Now that the concept of curiosity is getting attention in boardrooms around the world it pays to spend some time about what it actually means & explore deeper nuances. 'bottom up' curiosity is the automatic involuntary type. e.g. Someone knocks on the door and we look up to see who's there. Once we know who it is, our curiosity subsides and we go on with our lives. Bottom up curiosity is a natural reaction to surprising or novel things we pick up around us through our senses. bottom up curiosity decreases as soon as we (think we) know. Everybody possesses bottom-up curiosity, even animals. For infants, it is a key part of how they learn about the world around them. Once kids understand how things work, they move on to the next external trigger to explore. We'd struggle to stay alive without this type of curiosity. This type of curiosity is more reactive in nature. 'Top down' curiosity is different. It is not driven by external factors but mainly by an internal drive to learn and grow. It is as such more intellectual in nature as it tries to challenge what we know already, look for novel solutions or close information gaps, even when it is hard. 'Top down' curiosity gives us wings. It however takes energy. This type of curiosity requires intentionality, agency and proactivity to flourish. It requires permission. The philosopher John Dewey writes that not all people are endowed with this type of curiosity. I say that like many habits, they can be learned and improved (or diminish over time). I say that curiosity is a muscle with the right permission, awareness and intentionality, it can improve and flourish. This is true for individuals, and also teams and organisations. "I am Prof. K. K. Mehta. You may call me KK. And as you experience me over the next five days, you will get to know 'of' me better." That's how KK introduced himself to the participants of a 5-day leadership lab that we were running offsite. During breaks, day-end and at the end of the five days, participants thronged around KK as if he had cast a spell. They were curious; wanted to know him more closely, fully relishing the stories he had to tell. There were lighthearted banters as the stream of conversation flowed on freely. This speaks volumes of the richness of experience of himself that KK left the participants with. Quoting him, he "touched" them. When I asked him why he chose this experiential way of being known to the participants, he quipped: “In my becoming, my being is lost” This was KK. I met him first when he turned out to be the facilitator of my first Basic Human Process Lab with ISABS in the late 80’s. Thereafter, along the course of my 15 yearlong journeying with Applied Behavioral and humanistic sciences, with ISABs, I bumped into him on several occasions as my facilitator. With every meeting we were moving beyond mere acquaintance, as a bond of mutual fondness began to grow between us. KK and I re-connected as he relocated to Bangalore. We started meeting often and as an overlay on the already developed bond of fondness, a mentor-mentee relationship started growing. It was something that we co-crafted more in the lines of unconditional love and friendship. For hours together we would chat, sing, dance, argue, debate and even fight at times. There wasn’t ever any agenda nor any goal to achieve. And yet, I could observe myself growing wiser and deeper by day. Around 2010 I was at a crucial juncture - I was getting ready to start my coaching practice at the behest of some senior leaders who wanted to be coached by me to seek direction and growth in their professional career. Unknown to me and KK he was not only shaping my life but also my approach to coaching which emerged as the pioneering practice of Transformational Coaching. Looking back, here are some of the ways in which my practice of coaching has been influenced / impacted by KK’s benign power of presence: 1. There is no agenda. It gets co-created as we converse meaningfully and authentically. 2. There are no destinations, only sojourns. 3. Reflection cannot be imposed. It needs a coach to create a reflective environment. 4. Don’t confront. Care-front. 5. Blend advocacy with inquiry to help the other explore without feeling threatened. 6. 'Whose need is it any ways' - let the clients' need prevail. 7. A Power Giver, Not a Sympathy Receiver: Lessons from Srikanth Bolla A few volunteers from the Sankara Eye Foundation USA met with The Global Ambassador of the foundation, Srikanth Bolla, founder of Bollant Industries, a large enterprise in India that creates sustainable products from all kinds of waste materials. Srikanth, blind from birth, has built his company with his partner, Ravi Mantha. Despite his blindness, he has a big vision for the business, for the people in his life and for himself. The meeting was amazing. Here are some highlights and lessons learned from the Q&A session with the volunteers. When asked about his daily life, Srikanth said he lives each day to do something meaningful. This creates value for him and those around him. He doesn't have a daily routine; he goes with the flow every day. There were also questions about the movie Srikanth, where Rajkumar Rao played his role. Srikanth mentioned that his rich life couldn't be condensed into a 2-hour 10-minute movie. For example, one challenge not shown in the film was learning to use a Western toilet and toilet paper while at MIT. He humorously noted that he's not good in front of the camera but excels in real life, calling himself a reality star rather than a movie star. The movie was very successful, with an investment of 25 crore rupees and earnings of 90 crore rupees. Srikanth doesn't take no for an answer. He likes to prove people wrong when they doubt him. Although he cannot see, he is good at reading people and their intentions just by listening. He spoke highly of those who helped him along the way, including teachers, mentors, and well-wishers who showed up at the right time. Srikanth is against special schools for blind or deaf people. He believes schools should be inclusive of students with all backgrounds and abilities. On sympathy, he said he is not a sympathy receiver but a power giver. Lastly, Srikanth prefers execution over patents. He believes patents give away trade secrets and is completely against them. If you have not seen the movie, you should definitely watch it. It will surely bring tears in your eyes several times, but by the end you will be totally inspired. The movie is steaming on Netflix. Homoeopathy was my go-to medical practice when I was a kid, and we used to visit the legendary Dr Madan of Ashwini Homeo Clinic in the narrow by-lane of Basavangudi in Bangalore. Like any kid that age, I was fascinated by the sweet-tasting medicine, and it was the preferred choice for my mother as it was the easiest to administer. From managing my constant falling sick as a kid to my mom’s diabetes to even an unfortunate incident of her suffering a severe burn thanks to a misdirected firecracker, the Homeopathy practitioner treated all of it. A couple of family members who suffered from pollen allergies that are common in Bangalore to extreme cases of eczema were treated very effectively at the same clinic. Fast forward to when my daughter started school, she used to contract cough and cold from the other kids. After the sleepless nights watching her deal with the situation and our struggle to administer the disgusting syrups, my wife and I decided to switch to Homeopathy. It was instantly evident why my mother had chosen Homeopathy for me. It was effective and easy, so much so that my daughter used to remind us about the time for medication. Recently, when I met Dr Shilpa of Provitale Health, it was naturally effortless for me to understand the value and the opportunity for the growth of the practice in the evergrowing sector of Healthcare.
