This year, we ran our first ever festive artwork competition, asking the children of Permasteelisa Group colleagues around the world to choose their favourite Permasteelisa building and create a festive picture using drawing, painting or collage. As you can see, their response was fantastic, with twinkling lights, snowmen, Christmas trees and presents adorning buildings such as The Shard, Elbphilharmonie, Battersea Power Station and BMW Welt. We’d like to take this opportunity to wish all our colleagues, clients, partners and friends a wonderful holiday season! We look forward to seeing you all again in 2025 for another year of building visions together. #holiday #festive #facades #PermasteelisaGroup

It is exactly 10 years this week since the Musée des Confluences opened its doors in the city of Lyon, France. Since then, the iconic building has been visited by millions of people keen to learn more about the story of humankind and the history of life. We are extremely proud that our Gartner team contributed to its creation, designing, engineering and manufacturing the façade from its facilities in Germany. The giant building, with architecture by COOP HIMMELB(L)AU Wolf D. Prix & Partner, is made of glass, steel and concrete and covers an overall area of 21,000 sqm. The museum’s focus is reflected in its design – structures symbolising a crystal and a cloud stand 8m above the ground on a concrete base. Our designers used 3D design to create the complex geometry of the crystal’s steel structure and glazed panels. Alongside this, a 30m high glass cone, the ‘Well of Gravity’, required the design of 160 special knots to connect the glass to the steel of the structure. A remarkable building that continues to help shape our understanding of the world in its exploration of human knowledge. A proud moment for our team and the culmination of 18 months' work! The first starter units and glazed elements of the façade at One Liverpool Street in London have been installed. The state-of-the-art office and retail building, designed by Eric Parry Architects, occupies a prominent site in the City of London over underground lines and new Crossrail tunnels. The building has a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability – it targets a BREEAM Outstanding rating and is expected to achieve a 33% carbon saving compared to current building regulations. The painted cast and fabricated metal structure reflects the architecture of nearby stations. Our team at Gartner in Germany designed, engineered and manufactured the façade elements at its facility, including 6m horizontal sheet metal spandrels and 25kg powder-coated ornamental panels made of cast aluminium. These are now being fitted by our installation experts in London – both the spandrels and panels have to be threaded into specially designed rails and then mechanically secured after lowering. Another fantastic example of precision, coordination and teamwork across Permasteelisa Group! Josef Gartner GmbH #London #facades #construction #JosefGartner #PermasteelisaGroup

Great photos from London, where the last panel has been installed at the London College of Communication, part of the University of the Arts London. Designed by Allies and Morrison, the 12-storey building provides a flexible new home for the college over Elephant & Castle Underground Station. As well as teaching spaces, the building will house core administrative functions, the college’s renowned international language centre, training and conference facilities, a Student Union, and the Stanley Kubrick Archive. In partnership with main contractor Multiplex, our colleagues from Vittorio Veneto in Italy designed, engineered and manufactured a total of 17,500 sqm of unitised curtain wall with black patterned GRC and motorised opening vents. These were then installed by our experts in London – thanks to all for another great team effort! #London #redevelopment #construction #facades #PermasteelisaGroup

Thank you to Jens Mönnikes and John Conboye and their teams for hosting in their respective areas. Four sessions to go – Permasteelisa North America Corp. and Permasteelisa Gartner Middle East LLC, we’re looking forward to seeing you next week! #colleagueengagement #businessupdates #celebratingsuccess #planningforthefuture

What can our industry do to accelerate the transition to low-carbon façades? Can we design compelling buildings while reducing carbon? Colleagues from Scheldebouw, part of Permasteelisa Group, recently took part in a study with experts from Arup and Turner & Townsend alinea to explore cost-effective, carbon-reducing solutions for commercial façades. The findings of this study were presented in an engaging roundtable session with industry professionals. Focusing on a typical unitised curtain wall system with 60% glazing and vertical fins, six impactful actions were identified. Clients and collaborators were then invited to give insights into these, exploring their feasibility, potential challenges, and additional opportunities. Key takeaways included that efficient design doesn’t have to mean uninspiring design. Achieving a 50% reduction in carbon emissions requires us to challenge established industry norms and accelerate progress collaboratively. Insights from the roundtable will be published in December. In the meantime, if you would like to know more and continue the discussion, connect with Janneke Verkerk-Evers, Tim Debets, alistair law, Jonathan Wilson, Laura Solarino, or Steve Mudie. At Permasteelisa Group, we take real pride in our expertise in the healthcare sector. In total, we have designed, engineered, manufactured and installed over 1 million sqm of bespoke façade for 35 hospitals globally. As the images below show, our technically advanced façades play an important part in creating attractive, state-of-the-art healthcare facilities that make patients feel reassured, confident and comfortable. Buildings like the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the UK and King Juan Carlos University in Spain maximise natural light and space to enhance patient wellbeing. Others are groundbreaking in terms of design and engineering: Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital has set a new benchmark for sustainability in Singapore; Guy’s Tower is one of the tallest hospital buildings in the world. It is particularly rewarding to use our expertise to make people’s lives better at a time when they are often at their most vulnerable. We look forward to continuing to do so long into the future. #hospitals #healthcare #architecture #facades
