💪 Science meets humanitarian action! The Alliance through the CGIAR Research Initiative on Fragility, Conflict and Migration, has provided critical climate analysis informing UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency's recent report on conflict, climate and displacement. Launched at #COP29, the report projects that climate hazards will intensify over the next 20 years, impacting the Americas, West-Central Africa, and Southeast Asia. The good news is that this evidence is now informing global policies and protection strategies for displaced populations. Proud to see our scientific expertise supporting UNHCR's vital mission. 👀 Take a look at the report: https://lnkd.in/eFc4vSB4

🌏 Take a journey through the Tank Cascade Systems of #SriLanka: 💧 Ancient, man-made rainwater harvesting and irrigation systems that have allowed rural communities and wildlife to thrive in the country's dry zone for generations. Under the Healthy Landscapes Project, we worked to rehabilitate and ensure the sustainable management of these systems, together with the Global Environment Facility, UN Environment Programme, Ministry of environment, Sri Lanka and the South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme. 💡 Learn about the systems' unique contribution to #foodsecurity, #sustainablelivelihoods and #climateresilience in the project's latest publication!👉 https://lnkd.in/eX3QzJz9 Sharon Mendonce, Teresa Borelli, Danny Hunter

🌍 As #COP29 Azerbaijan launches, the UN Environment Programme Adaptation Gap Report titled "Come Hell and High Water" highlights the need for accelerated #climateadaptation to protect vulnerable communities. 🤝 Countries must commit to an ambitious collective #climatefinance goal to bridge the gap and enhance resilience. 🔍 Key Highlights: 💸Current adaptation funding meets only a fraction of the $215–$387 billion required annually for developing countries. 📉 Meeting the Glasgow Climate Pact's target to reach $38 billion funding by 2025 would only narrow the finance gap by 5%. 🔧Capacity building and technology transfer are essential to help communities adapt to escalating climate challenges. Chapter 3, co-authored by Alliance researcher Lucy Njuguna, highlights the need to overcome obstacles to adaptation. Her contributions emphasize the importance of accelerating initiatives that assess how effectively adaptation strategies are addressing the escalating threats posed by climate change. 👉 Read the full report here! https://lnkd.in/gWMHKEk7

🚨 #DigitalPhenotyping in Crop Breeding: #artificialintelligence is transforming how we approach agricultural research and #cropimprovement: 🔍 Image-based phenotyping provides reliable trait outputs, integrating computer vision estimates that align with expert visual assessments. 🌾 Efficiency: Low-cost devices reduce the labor required for #phenotyping, allowing technicians to phenotype an entire breeding plot in under 30 seconds! 📈 Increasing data quantity: Daily imaging captures data from every plant. Our on-farm pilot studies in #Tanzania are pioneering large-scale, quantitative data collection that can directly inform #cropbreeding strategies. 🎯👩🌾 However, we must ensure that these innovations benefit farmers directly. Findings indicate that: 🤝Feedback from farmers is critical: Understanding farmers' preferences ensures that breeding improving their livelihoods and well-being. 📱Access to technology is a challenge: Ensuring that farmers have the necessary tools and training is essential for long-term success.
