  • Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair is a pioneering astronaut selected for the prestigious Gaganyaan mission. His journey began in a small village in Kerala. He is a representative of the Indian aerospace expertise. Born 26 August 1976 in Nemmara, Palakkad. Early in life, he faced major obstacles including returning to India following the 1990 invasion of Kuwait by Iraq. Authored by Mukund for the Covering ISRO. • The European Space Agency (ESA) has selected the Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) over the Vega C for the launch of its Proba 3 mission, underscoring the strengthening collaboration between India and Europe in the field of space exploration. The PSLV, renowned for its remarkable reliability, boasts a success rate of 97%, making it one of the most dependable medium-lift rockets globally. In contrast, the Vega C, while designed for similar payload capacities, has yet to demonstrate comparable reliability, with only two successful flights to date. • Indian Institute of Astrophysics ( IIA), Bangalore, has made a groundbreaking discovery utilizing the UltraViolet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) data onboard the ISRO’s AstroSat satellite. The discovery detected the far-ultraviolet emissions from novae in the Andromeda Galaxy (M31), located 2.5 million light-years away. Using UVIT, astronomers at IIA observed the phenomenon of such ultraviolet emissions during outbursts in 42 novae, capturing 4 such emissions in real-time. Thus, they witnessed the phenomenon for the first time in mankind's space exploration history outside our Milky Way galaxy. The ISRO AstroSat hosting India’s first dedicated multi-wavelength space observatory, enabled the detection of far-ultraviolet (FUV) and near-ultraviolet (NUV) emissions with key AstroSat payload UVIT, a state-of-art indigenously developed high-sensitivity telescope. These unparalleled insights into high-energy astrophysical phenomena underline the amalgamation of astrophysics with space exploration pursuit of India, bridging the theoretical predictions with empirical evidence. • The Indian Navy and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) conducted Gaganyaan's "Well Deck" recovery trial on December 6, 2024, with the well-deck ship off the Visakhapatnam coast. The "Well Deck" trial provided a streamlined system allowing spacecraft such as the Crew Module to be safely towed in and removed after landing at sea. During the trial, a mock-up Crew Module was used to practice attaching a recovery buoy, towing, docking inside the ship, and draining water from the well deck. The trial validated recovery procedures and fixtures and aided in refining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Parent - THE GEOSTRATA #isro #gaganyaan #indiannavy #gagannaut #Vyomnaut #crewmodule

  • The Union Government has approved Shukrayaan-1, the ambitious Venus Orbiter Mission (VOM), set to launch in 2028. Announcing this development, Nilesh M. Desai, Director of ISRO's Space Applications Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad, stated that the mission will mark a significant milestone in India's planetary exploration endeavors. Often referred to as Earth's twin, Venus is the planet closest to Earth and is believed to have formed under similar conditions. Shukrayaan-1 will explore Venus's surface and atmosphere, helping scientists understand how planetary environments evolve and why Venus, once thought to be habitable, developed so differently from Earth. • India's ambitious space exploration mission, Gaganyaan, is steadily advancing toward the lift-off phase as the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) revises its schedule and prepares to launch the first unmanned mission, Gaganyaan-1, by March 2025. To ensure comprehensive monitoring, ISRO plans to deploy scientists aboard ships positioned at critical observation points in the Pacific and North Atlantic Oceans. Earlier, ISRO Chairman S. Somnath had stated that Gaganyaan-1 was slated for launch by the end of 2024. This new development marks a significant milestone in India's pursuit of its maiden human spaceflight. • On November 20, 2024, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Australian Space Agency (ASA) signed an Implementing Arrangement (IA) to bolster bilateral cooperation in space activities. The agreement, signed by Shri DK Singh, Director, HSFC at Bengaluru, and Shri Jarrod Powell, General Manager, Space Capability Branch at Canberra, focuses on crew and crew module recovery for India’s Gaganyaan human spaceflight missions. Gaganyaan, ISRO’s ambitious program, aims to demonstrate the capability of sending humans to low Earth orbit and safely returning them. The IA ensures Australia’s vital support in search and rescue operations and crew module recovery during potential ascent phase contingencies near Australian waters. This underscores Australia’s critical role in ensuring mission safety and success. This agreement is part of an enduring strategic partnership, reflecting growing collaboration between the nations. Following Australia’s support during Chandrayaan-3, it highlights shared aspirations in advancing space exploration and technology. Authored by Jaypal Kalra for the Covering ISRO. Elon Musk’s SpaceX successfully launched India’s GSAT-20 satellite into space. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) collaborated with SpaceX for the first time. The launch occurred on November 18, 2024, from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The 4,700-kg satellite is designed to enhance India’s communication infrastructure, including internet connectivity for remote areas and flights. SpaceX's Falcon 9 carried GSAT-20 due to its weight exceeding the capabilities of ISRO's LVM-3 launch vehicle.
