In Battle Carnival, up to 6 players compete in a vibrant carnival setting, aiming to attract crowd to their shops. I’ve had the pleasure of working on dynamic gameplay mechanics, from engaging power-ups to customizable characters, all within beautifully crafted maps. 🛍️ *Gameplay Highlights* : Players will strategize to collect crowd and lead them to randomly spawned shops while outsmarting their opponents. Balancing the chaos and strategic elements has been a rewarding challenge, ensuring each match feels unique and exciting. DSA in Games: The Secret Sauce 🧩 In game development, the importance of Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) isn’t always obvious. While building my game Iron Citadel, a tower-defense strategy game, I found DSA essential even for guiding enemy paths. Originally, enemies followed a fixed path, but to make navigation dynamic, I turned to DSA. It’s been eye-opening to see how crucial algorithms are for even the simplest game mechanics! 🚀 When I started exploring game development, I wondered, Is DSA really that important here? It turns out that it is—not only is it necessary, but it's also woven into areas of game design you might not expect. Here are just a few examples: 1️⃣ Arrays and Vectors: Used in object pooling and grid-based inventory systems, like those in Resident Evil. 2️⃣ Graphs: Employed to navigate characters through open-world games like GTA or Watch Dogs. 3️⃣ Trees: Essential for decision-making or skill trees, common in RPGs like Assassin’s Creed. In my case, I’m implementing Breadth-First Search (BFS) in Iron Citadel as an alternative to A* or Dijkstra's algorithms. BFS has been a great choice for this game, offering a more efficient pathfinding approach for the specific demands of tower-based strategy games. It’s been a challenging yet rewarding journey, diving into DSA in unexpected ways and applying these techniques to my game. I’m excited to publish Iron Citadel soon and share it with the community. India has lot of potential in gaming industry, but there are several reasons why it hasnt yet reached as a global leader in producing big budget games on the scale of leading gaming studios The Indian gaming industry is still relatively young, and large scale investments in game development have been limited. Building AAA games requires substantial investment, and many studios in India are smaller, focusing on mobile games or outsourcing work for global companies. Beacuse of heavy use smartphones and affordable internet in India, mobile gaming become popular. This has led to a focus on casual and hyper-casual mobile games instead of high-budget PC or console games. The revenue model for mobile games is different, with a focus on microtransactions and advertising rather than one-time purchases like AAA games. AAA games requires highly specialized skills in areas like 3D modeling, animation, and coding. While India has a large pool of IT talent, game development has not been a significant focus in the countrys educational or professional landscape. Indian developers face heavy competition from established international gaming studios with decades of experience. Hiya folks! Recently I have taken to turn based games a lot and have been fascinated by them, especially Baldur's Gate 3. So one day was just wondering, wouldn't it be great if there was template in Unreal like the ThirdPerson or the FPS game modes. So I have decided to create one myself, encapsulating most of the basic elements present in any turn based game, starting with.. the PlayerController or in other words the Camera Controller. Turn based games always have some strategy and planning inherent to them, making you think while it's not your turn, on what would be the best move to do when it is finally your turn. One of the subtle tools which they provide you to help make that decision, is the camera. Here's a post I made in case you are interested in my analysis and implementation of this mechanic. Driven to build games after experiencing RoadRash for the first time, this is Raghav P.’s story of becoming a game developer. #HumansOfGaming Raghav developed an interest in programming from a very young age when he took his first coding class in 6th grade. Fast forward, Raghav graduated with a bachelor's in computer application and a peaking curiosity in programming. Naturally, Raghav encounters a metahuman character and becomes fascinated by the concepts of AI and ML. He is so fascinated that he starts pursuing a journey to learn the advanced concepts of AI, ML, and game programming. Now, Raghav, with a pure passion for learning game programming, takes online courses that teach him about Unity. But most internet courses can teach only so much when it comes to applying advanced levels of game programming. As the next logical step, Raghav starts searching for institutes in India that can help him learn everything needed for game development and land a job in the industry. Sadly, in India, video games are considered a luxurious waste of time. Hence, there are hardly any institutes dedicated to providing a professional degree in game development, let alone helping people land jobs in the games industry.
