#Delhivery seems to be the best courier service-- its friction-less pickup and delivery model with the app is cool!! Now, let me tell you about something that is not friction-less in Pune. Back in the day, I used to travel to Japan every month, sometimes twice a month, while building the Japanese arm of a software company and negotiating a very large contract for creating an offshore chip design team. During that time, I stayed at the same hotel in Tokyo and was amazed to see a flyover go from start to finish in just 4 (maybe 5) months. What has this got to do with Pune, you ask? Well, one of the main flyovers here is being demolished to be replaced by a 4-lane one (I presume). This flyover has been shut for 3 months without any sign of work starting. This vital link connects large parts of town to the bustling Koregaon Park, Kalyani Nagar, Viman Nagar, and further down to Kharadi and the airport. The traffic diversions have caused total chaos, sometimes taking 3 hours to cover a distance of 10 KM during peak hours and 1 hour during off-peak hours, burning expensive oil for no reason and polluting the air.. (Of course, the charming driving habits of my fellow Pune-ites don’t help matters much). This is the exact opposite of "frictionless"!! In Tokyo, it took 4-5 months to build a flyover from start to finish in 2004. And in Pune, it has taken 3 months for the work on the flyover to even begin!! Why have they messed with the traffic when there is no sign of work beginning on the new flyover? No one knows, and no one dares to ask!! Stop using Meesho: A Personal Experience of Fraud and Lack of Support. I recently had an unsettling experience with my mother’s online shopping on Meesho, and I felt it important to share this as a cautionary tale. My mother ordered a product from Meesho. Unfortunately, when she received the order, it was of terrible quality, so she requested a return. That's when the real trouble started. She began receiving calls and messages from Meesho, supposedly to address the issue with the product. In one of these calls, someone asked her to share an OTP for return confirmation. Unknowingly, she shared it, and in a matter of minutes, her account was hacked. The hackers linked their own UPI ID to her account, and shockingly, Meesho credited the refund directly to the hacker’s UPI without even retrieving the product! When we reached out to customer care, the explanations were confusing at best: They claimed there was a "technical issue" that led to the refund being processed instantly. Then they said it was a “special case.” Adding to the frustration, they advised us to remove the hacker's UPI ID, but the app kept showing errors. Ultimately, they suggested deactivating the account altogether. Instead of helping resolve the issue, the conclusion was that it was somehow our fault. I tried raising the issue on social media, but all I got were generic, auto-generated responses, not real support. I understand my mother made a mistake by sharing the OTP, but this raises several concerning questions: 1. How did these hackers get access to her order details and phone number in the first place? 2. Why was the refund processed instantly without the product being returned, especially after the account had been compromised? This indicated that someone inside Meesho might be involved in or supporting these frauds, or that the entire company hasn’t been able to help the victims. It also points to concerns about the safety and security of the Meesho platform, as there’s no option to log out of all devices or safeguard your data effectively. I urge everyone to think twice before using platforms like Meesho. These platforms should not be allowed to play with people’s trust and emotions like this. Stay safe, stay aware.

Remote work solves a lot of problems out there. 1. Decongest metros. 2. Reduce concentrated pollution. 3. Reduce traffic problems. 4. Improve spending in smaller cities. 5. Increase tier 2/3 demand for goods and services. 6. Decentralised growth and development. 7. Help India grow horizontally, instead of crumbling vertically. 8. Better working conditions for people with families, be it taking care of young kids or aging parents. 9. More supportive to women who might face more hurdles and require a better and flexible schedule for themselves. Improves women's participation in the workforce, which is very much needed to realise India's growth story. 10. Reduction in cost of living due to decentralisation of the crowd, making people think more favorably for having/raising kids, doing charity or spending on causes they resonate with. 11. Savings for the company in terms of office lease at expensive places and operation costs. ------------ In the interest of a few people who gain to benefit by congesting cities and making them unlivable, the majority of the population is put into an endless loop of bad living conditions. Beyond that, it's hard to justify why remote work is not promoted as much as it should be. A lot of people genuinely do have problems with remote work. But does that mean, the solution is to crowd unsustainably, waste precious time in traffic and live in polluted cities? We should go out and solve the root causes and how remote can be made better. Very few people in the industry promote things like that. There's a lot that can be done to improve: - Getting a better and dedicated home work office setup with high quality webcams and microphones. If you live in a smaller city, you will be able to rent a much more spacious house where you can have dedicated work setups. - Building satellite offices or using co-working spaces across the country for in-person events, as and when required. - Inculcating the culture of async communication and well maintained documentation so that everyone is set up for success in their role. AI can help immensely here. As a worker whose job can also be done remotely, do you buy into the reasons given to you on why in-office work is the way to go forward?

Company has put up a security concern on a guy who referred 40+ candidates to their company in 2023. I was speaking to a senior backend developer yesterday who is currently working in a premium banking company based out of Bengaluru (if you can guess the company, mention it in the comments section). Mistake he made was referring to 40 candidates over 2023-2024. Few he knew personally and remaining approached him over #linkedin. Now all of a sudden company security team is alert and asking 1. Do you know all the 40 you referred to ? 2. If not, why did you refer them to the company ? Give us a detailed justification over email. Including myself many of you might have thought referral can be done for both whom we knew personally or over professional networks like LinkedIn ? I never knew some companies had rules like this !! 👋 Goodbye Zomato! 📈 Blinkit’s Value Soars Higher Than Zomato's Food Delivery Business 📍 The Blinkit strategy of Zomato has been successful, so much so that the value of Blinkit is now higher than the core business of Zomato which is food delivery. 📍 A report by Goldman Sachs showed how fast Blinkit grew and as a result, the stock price of Zomato skyrocketed. 📍 The worth of Blinkit surged to $13 billion approximately which is a six times increase since March 2023. 📍 This was driven by its outstanding performance with 103% YoY growth in GOV during Q4 December 2023 alone among other things. 📍 Goldman Sachs expects EBITDA breakeven for Blinkit by the end of Q4 FY24 and projects that it will have a better EBITDA margin than any year from 2021 through 2030 over Zomatos food delivery business. 📍 Another notable thing about this analysis was Consumer Sentiment where it turned out that Blinkits had the highest favorability rating among consumers thereby solidifying their position as a strong performer within the market space. 📍 India's quick commerce industry is growing rapidly and could reach up to $150bn in the top 50 cities alone by 2023 addressable market size estimates suggest explosive demand for fast-moving consumer goods. 📍 Blinkit’s performance plus the increase in Zomato’s stock price indicates a bright future.

Calling out Pranav Goel Uttam Digga and Vikas Choudhary of Porter Courier Services Porter claims, “Delivery hai? Ho jaaega!!” But the reality? “Delivery hai? Kabhi nahi ho paaega.” I booked several all-India parcels with Porter to ship them out of Mumbai, picked up on June 30th with a scheduled delivery date of July 8th. As of today, these parcels haven’t even left the source city. The excuse given is Mumbai’s waterlogging due to rain. Seriously? Other service providers like Delhivery and DTDC Express Limited Express Limited are operating under these conditions. Stop making excuses and do your job properly. I’ve to go through many difficulties due to this delay. I’ve raised 5-6 VOCs without any resolution or even a callback from a senior executive, despite multiple requests. When I asked customer care to return my parcels to the pickup location 4 days ago, they said it would take at least 15 more days, even though the parcels are still in the source location. What kind of system is this, and who is responsible for these absurd rules when the shipment is in origin place itself? I’ve waited long enough and refuse to wait any longer. Pranav Goel please look into this and return my items. It’s clear that Porter isn’t competent enough to handle the delivery, so let me retrieve my items and ship them through another provider, else I've to move out to consume court for this. In today's era of hybrid and remote work, it's ironic how some companies shell out 5+ lakhs a month for managers but hesitate to trust them to lead a small team from home this raises an important question if they are valued enough to manage a team in-office why not remotely? paying high salaries should imply confidence in managers skills, strategic thinking, and independence. Yet, the reluctance to trust them with remote work points to a broader issue perhaps companies are hiring managers to be supervisors not leaders if an organization invests in leadership roles but insists on keeping them within sight to ensure work is getting done, there’s a disconnect somewhere. As the world shifts towards hybrid and remote work, it's disheartening to see that in Pakistan many companies still expect employees to show up in the office, even when the work environment is increasingly hazardous. It is especially frustrating when companies promote their “care programs” but don’t practice what they preach. My Role in Swiggy's Journey to IPO With India’s leading on-demand food delivery platform, Swiggy became the country’s fastest unicorn in June 2018. I joined the Serviceability team, the core of Swiggy's customer pre-order journey. Our work ensured that any restaurant shown on the app was actually serviceable, factoring in dynamic elements like delivery partner availability, demand fluctuations, and external factors like weather and festivals. With Swiggy's massive scale, each app open triggered serviceability checks for around 2,000–3,000 restaurants, handling up to 100,000 requests per minute at peak. This made serviceability a compute-heavy system, requiring optimizations to accurately calculate distance, time, and delivery service promises. Key Achievements: 1. Caching: Implemented extensive caching for distance calculations, scaling to 200 million requests per minute. 2. Time Prediction Models: Integrated models for assignment, prep, wait, last-mile, and delivery time. 3. System Scaling: Enabled system to handle 100,000 requests per minute within 80ms. 3. Directional GeoFiltering: Replaced Radial GeoFiltering with a rule-based cluster service to improve serviceability accuracy. 4. Debugging Tool: Built a tool for Ops, reducing on-call debugging time by four hours per day and empowering tech support team Working at Swiggy and contributing to its success story as it reached IPO status has been a proud milestone.
