At SigNoz, we fundamentally believe that observability should be more open and transparent. As a fundamental need for any software product, observability for software product is as important as electricity is for our daily lives. The future should have more open and transparent products as the default, rather than walled gardens and vendor lock-ins. This is a guiding principle into every things we do at SigNoz: - From native support of open source instrumentation standards like OpenTelemetry - To having the product available in open source on Github - From having a transparent usage based pricing - To building things in open where we share inner workings of how we do things at SigNoz In continuation of this philosophy, we recently launched our Trust Center recently. It shows: - The compliance and security controls we follow - Our current compliance certification ( e.g. We are SoC2 Type 1 compliant) - Our subprocessor lists ( especially relevant for customers who need to adhere to GDPR) - Ability to Request Access to our compliance reports for our customers We are always looking to understand what can promote more transparency and default to open-ness in this ecosystem. How many Maruti Suzuki Alto cars are on Bangalore roads? Sounds like one of those job interview puzzles that are categorised as Fermi Problems. Fermi problems or estimation problems are named after physicist Enrico Fermi. He was famous for estimating answers to questions with very little data. Another famous Fermi problem? Guess how many piano tuners could possibly exist in New York City. But, I digress. I will not tax your mind with the number of Alto's on Bangalore roads. Instead, I'll welcome you on a meandering path that starts in India's Silicon Valley and travels all the way to the real Silicon Valley and ends with a magic number - 1500 bytes. I found it interesting that one of the more popular cars on our Bangalore roads shares its name with one of the most famous computer systems in computing history, the Xerox Alto. The Xerox Alto birthed the personal computer industry. The first computer with a GUI, introduced the desktop metaphor and inspired Apple and others to launch commercially successful personal computers. A very important Alto indeed! And now, to the magic number - 1500 bytes. 1500 bytes is the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) of an Ethernet frame. Why this bizarre number? It turns out that because Ethernet was created for the Xerox Alto, this magic number was selected so the bits arriving over Ethernet could be written to the Alto's memory without any buffering. What was meant to be a value for a specific version of a specific computer ended up becoming a standard that continued to be used years later. Next time you see a magic number like this, remember Steve Jobs' lines - "..everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use."

Small companies are playing a crucial role in facilitating GPU access in India, particularly in the realm of cloud computing & AI infrastructure. Neysa Velocis, Mumbai-based Neysa’s flagship platform, helps scale up AI projects using GPU infrastructure & has a diverse inventory of thousands of GPUs. Indore-based NeevCloud® is a recent entrant with plans to deploy 40,000 GPUs, aiming to provide affordable & accessible GPU resources to AI researchers & developers. Bengaluru-based JarvisLabs.ai has access to more than 1,000 GPUs through partners & also has its own capacity in the country. Small companies often offer better local support & quicker response times, factors that are crucial for businesses operating in India. But setting up & maintaining GPU infrastructure can be expensive, especially for smaller companies. The market is becoming increasingly competitive, with both large & small players vying for market share. However, the growing demand for AI & machine learning in India presents a significant opportunity for small companies to thrive. “Very shortly, we will have a much more recent and a more modern inventory of GPUs within our platform,” said Karan Kirpalani, chief product officer at Neysa, an AI acceleration cloud platform company. A large part of Neysa’s clientele in the private sector is from financial services, insurance, education, media, entertainment, pharma, life sciences & IT/ITeS. Neysa Velocis offers GPU-based AI services including training, fine-tuning & inferencing, with a focus on cost efficiency & ease of use. It has raised $50 million in funding & collaborates with NTT Data Corporation’s data centres in India. It has onboarded 12 clients in about 10 weeks since the formal launch of its platform in October, with a mix of Indian & global multinationals. Neysa’s differentiation comes from its intellectual property & cost-conscious design, said Kirpalani, adding that its pricing is competitive, offering return on investment benefits & total cost of ownership reductions of 40-70% compared to hyper scalers. It is also participating in the INDIAai Mission, leveraging partnerships for scale & complexity. Narendra Sen, founding chief executive of NeevCloud, told ETtech that the company has built an orchestration engine to provide GPUs on demand. “We can expand in the US & Europe & are continuing to invest in AI data centres in central India, & are going to other states like Chhattisgarh, Raipur, Mumbai & Bengaluru,” he said. Sen said that these data centres will be capable of holding up to 60,000 GPUs, but the company will ramp up next year with around 2,000 of NVIDIA’s H200 & Blackwell GPUs to begin with. Jarvis Labs, founded in 2020, initially provided integrated development environments powered by GPUs at affordable prices due to lack of competitors. 🌟 KBC's New Challenger Week Format: A PM Perspective! 🌟 Yesterday, while watching KBC on Sony Pictures Networks India, I was impressed by the new Challenger Week format. It is clear that the team has made thoughtful changes to enhance viewer engagement, especially during the critical first five questions. It got me thinking about the product management strategies behind this change. 🔍 Problem: It seems that feedback might have indicated lower engagement levels during transition from 1K to 5K questions. The goal will be to boost user engagement during this period. 📊 Discovery : The KBC team likely would have conducted thorough research, gathering insights from users and analyzing engagement data. User engagement during different segments of the show. They would have examined their strengths and limitations, such as candidate availability and show duration. 💡Solution : What impressed me most was their innovative solution: selecting two participants to challenge each other. This not only made the segment more interesting but also leveraged their strengths effectively. It is indeed a major honor to be recognized as the Chief Data Officer of the Year 🙏. I am humbled to learn that my contributions to the Data Science and Analytics community have been recognised. I was in two minds after completion of my doctoral studies - whether to join academics or venture into the industry. Even then, in the industry should I continue in the field of Chemical Engineering or follow my passion around data and solve business problems - something I learned at Sloan and during my PhD work. I am glad I ventured out into the field of Data Sciences. Data sciences is an ever evolving field. Back in the 1990s the focus was on dimensional modeling to build data warehouses and data marts, and business intelligence. Two decades later we still build similar systems except that now we are dealing with large volumes of data getting generated at high velocity. That is Big Data. Machine learning algorithms developed in the 1980s and 1990s are finding practical relevance now. GenAI is the youngest kid in the block. I believe over time we will find Quantum AI and its ability to handle petabytes of data become a reality. Thanks #StrategINK for this great honor! Here are the solutions to the problems I attempted A. X Axis Sort the array X and traverse from X[0] to X[2]. For every value, check the distances of all three and select the minimum. Matrix Stabilization If a[i][j] is unstable (all neighbours are less than its value), its final value will be the maximum of its neighbours. If the size of the vector is odd then we have to skip an element (this will be the element in the middle of the array). The initial answer would be v[1] - v[0] + v[3] - v[2] + . . . + v[n - 1] - v[n - 2]. We skipped the element at index n - 1. It can be seen that is is optimal to skip elements at indices 0, 2, 4, 6, . . . , and so on. If we skip an element at index 2 the answer will be v[1] - v[0] + v[4] - v[3] + v[6] - v[5] + . . . + v[n] - v[n - 1]. The minimum value of all these expressions can be calculated by maintaining prefix sums of the odd and even indices.
