The #IndiaAI Mission, launched by MeitY with a budget of Rs 10,372 crore, aims to strengthen India's #AI ecosystem. They offer fellowships up to Rs 2 lakh to eligible B.Tech and M.Tech students enrolled in top engineering universities to support their AI projects. B.Tech students can receive Rs 1 lakh in three installments, while M.Tech students can get Rs 2 lakh in four installments of Rs 50,000 each. To be eligible, B.Tech students must have at least an 80% mark in their last semester and M.Tech students must be pursuing AI-related courses and working on an AI thesis. This program helps develop a skilled AI workforce by providing financial aid to students undertaking #AI-related projects. Every major economy is going to mandate AI clouds for government departments and sensitive industries to be on their soil. GPT5 is coming... Sam Altman has already started discussing the arrival of GPT5 whilst acknowledging that there is still a lot of work to do (see link below) Well,if they reduce the hallucination elements then a lot of enterprise organisations will be relieved and a lot more chatGPT use cases will be triggered as CEOs look to generative ai to slash costs and boost efficiency to keep shareholders happy. And can we keep up? With our biological brains straining to keep up with the everyday flow of information and the raft of new applications at some point this digital cognitive intelligence is going to push us into the slow lane, surely? What is interesting to note this week is the number of organisations who are starting to seriously address how they integrate generative ai into their operations. Where will this lead? Which organisations are going to sharpen their AI advantage first? What will the first native AI optimised enterprise look like? How will these companies make their offerings distinctive if there is not much choice in the tools? How are organisations going to reinvent themselves? Whatever stage you are at, I think it is safe to assume that the version of chatgpt or ai you are working with is probably the worst version. As the pace of change is going to only pick up and these tools are going to evolve very quickly with all sorts of new applications, opportunities and risks. Hyderabad Gen AI plans for startups might need a reboot, but Hyderabad certainly has the best community driven open source ecosystem and research centers when compared with other cities. IIIT-H is working on cutting edge research in gen AI. Swecha and the community have already shown through Chandamama Kathalu and Gonthuka projects how to collect crowd sourced data and build eco friendly models. We have already collected 100 million tokens in Telugu and plan to complete a billion tokens in Telugu within the next 6 months. We are training 1 lakh interns within the next couple of months. And of course at Ozonetel, we are building cutting edge AI in CX which no one else in the world is building. I can't think of any other city with such a wide variety of activities across society in Gen AI :)

I have been thinking deeply about building powerful AI systems, which are also safer for our society. I am becoming more convinced that we need more realistic AI sandboxes at scale, which still bounded by legal and physical boundaries, like an AI city. This will become even more important in coming years as we will automate 30-40% of the workflows with AI. We need to monitor, model and regulate the change more carefully. How Will AI Aggravate the Loneliness Epidemic in India According to the research paper titled, “Loneliness in India: A systematic review of empirical studies,” which was published in January 2020 (i.e., before the Covid pandemic), among 3,169 participants, 41% reported a high burden of loneliness. The burden of loneliness was 44% among elderly participants and 24% among children, adolescents, and young adults. Even though India is still a developing country, the percentage of people feeling considerably lonely is quickly reaching that of developed countries like the U.S.A, where approximately 50% of those surveyed complained of severe loneliness.  This article reviews the reasons for loneliness in India, why Artificial Intelligent (AI) systems will aggravate it massively, disastrous effects of loneliness, and what needs to be done to combat this epidemic. AI is evolving at an unprecedented rate, but to ensure its future is inclusive, diverse, and equitable, we need more women leading the charge in this space. I was recently featured in this insightful article by Analytics India Magazine where I share my perspective on why the future of AI is incomplete without the active participation of women. I believe “women represent half of the end-users of AI technology, making their input in development vital.” As we move forward, it’s essential that we: Address the gender gap in AI and tech. Encourage mentorship and opportunities for young women in STEM. Foster inclusive innovation that benefits everyone, not just one group. In the AI community, we need to empower more voices, build more diverse teams, and champion the importance of representation in tech. India's deeptech landscape is at a crucial point. Nasscom’s latest report shows that 70% of deeptech startups are worried about not having enough capital for computing operations. On the flip side, over 70% of investment firms are hesitant because these high-potential ventures need patient capital due to their long gestation periods. It's a bit of a chicken-and-egg situation! To really support our deeptech startups and their groundbreaking innovations, we need to rethink our funding approach. This is where we hope the government can step in with some help. Co-investment programs, grants, and tax credits for R&D could make a huge difference.
