🚨Swiggy IPO gets oversubscribed led by QIB bids Swiggy’s IPO was oversubscribed 1.07 times by the third day, driven largely by QIBs, who oversubscribed their portion 1.52 times. Retail investors subscribed to 97% of their portion, while Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs) made bids for 22% of their allocation. Bengaluru-based ecommerce startup POP has raised $2.4 million in seed funding led by IndiaQuotient, with participation from angel investors. This funding will accelerate POP's rollout of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services via the POPclub app, which has received approval from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) as a Third-Party Application Provider (TPAP). Developed with YES BANK and JUSPAY, the POPclub app allows users to earn POPcoins, a unique shopping currency, with 2% value back on every transaction. Founder Bhargav Errangi aims to make POP the primary platform for payments and shopping among Gen Z and millennials. Since its launch in May 2023, POP has partnered with over 200 brands, including mCaffeine, Simple Skin Care, Adil Qadri, Anveshan, Two Brothers Organic Farms® and epigamia, and engaged over four million customers. Playstore Approvals have become more challenging over the last year. Sharing my experience with what I think might help you avoid long wait queues for approvals 1. Never submit an app listing change along with an app build. This most definitely will put you in a manual queue which will take atleast a few days 2. Never revoke and republish the same things for a review. This will never speed up things and your submission will move to the end of the queue 3. Publishing to multiple release tracks might put you in a slower queue than single track release reviews 4. If you are going to make big changes like targeting a different SDK version or adding a new permission which requires a manual declaration, plan to do it on one of the test tracks as soon as you have a build which compiles. New declarations can put your app in a manual review. Examples of this might be you have started using the READ_SMS permission and that requires a declaration of how the reviewer can check the functionality and usage along with a video. Front load this on a test track well in advance to your actual production release 5. There are certain keywords in your app listing that can put you in a manual review loop. In my experience a word like vaccinated to suggest that all our delivery partners are vaccinated continuously put us in the manual review cycle loop 6. The review team is more spread across the world these days but generally make your festive and occassion releases well in advance. We always used to face challenges in getting the reviews completed during Christmas and New Year. Having said that, since this team is more distributed, releases around some major Indian festivals like Diwali also have become challenging. 7. Fastfoward to July 2024, Koo has shut shop. 🐤 Be its logo featuring a yellow bird (strikingly similar to erstwhile Twitter’s blue motif) or the VOKAL pitch, Koo left no stone unturned to attract users amid the growth of social media platforms due to the nationwide lockdown. Let's look at the financials, and where it went wrong! 🛑 Revenue 💹 Source of Income : Marketing Services FY21 0.08 Cr. FY22 0.14 Cr. just 14 lakh INR as revenue against operating cost of 202 Crores. EBIDTA Margin 🔻 FY21 -3,002.56% FY22 -4,022.54% Even after having raised capital in excess of $50 Mn (400+ Cr.) since its inception, the startup found NO INVESTORS for its Series C round as the financials were “not impressive enough,”. In late 2023, even cofounder Bidawatka conceded the fact saying that Koo was caught in a sour market and had to switch its focus from growth to generating revenue. The Cashback Strategy is Not Gonna Work Anymore! Here's why Remember the excitement surrounding GPay's launch and its cashback scratch cards? Feels like forever ago seeing the cashback, right? Back in 2017, the UPI market share looked like this: BHIM - 52%, PhonePe - 16%, Google Pay - 12%, Paytm - 4% Within a year, by 2018, here's how the market share changed: GPay - 39%, BHIM - 34%, PhonePe - 14%, Paytm - 6% It's all the transformation that happened because of the referral strategy and cashback offers; they played a significant role in GPay's user base growth in 2018. Referral incentives likely attracted new users, and cashbacks encouraged existing ones to make repeat transactions. So, the change in 2018. Now, CRED enters the market with the same strategy of cashback, coupons, and great ad concepts that are everywhere. Three and a half years later, this is the state today: PhonePe - 50%, GPay - 35%, Paytm - 9%, Cred - 1%, Others - 5% The reasons for Cred to be at that state of a bare 1%, even after providing great cashback, are multiple. Here are a few: ▶ Cred is only for users with more than 750 credit scores (top 5% of the Indian audience). ▶ Cred's UI is pretty complicated for regular users. ▶ Most of their users belong to India-1; they care about product efficiency, not cashback. If these are the reasons for Cred, here are the other reasons why cashback doesn't work anymore: ▶ Users value transaction success rate more than cashback. Users need the UPI which even works at very low signals; PhonePe is the name I hear often that it even works on 2G. ▶ It's hard to teach a new UI to India-2&3. Once they get used to the product, they don't like to change often because of trust issues. ▶ Indian 2&3 don't know much about coupons as they don't know these new brands, which is the major percentage in the market share. So, with all these points, isn't the Indian UPI market looking saturated? With these observations, do you think Jupiter has any scope of entering and making an impact on the market share? 🚨 Pine Labs-owned Setu's revenue jumps almost 2.5X, loss narrows Pine Labs Group’s fintech startup, Setu, is on the rise! Do we already have the next Zomato ? Zepto has increased their platform fee to Rs. 9.99 i.e ~Rs.10 (Bangalore) and this is the highest platform fee for any e/q-commerce company so far. AoV (Average order value) at Zepto is Rs. 350 for which Delivery is free whereas for order less than Rs. 199 there is a delivery charge of Rs. 27 (Bangalore). Considering a near hypothetical scenario where no. of orders above Rs. 199 is 50% and below Rs. 199 is 50% and total no. of orders is 100 per day. Zepto pay nearly Rs.50 per order to it's delivery guys who delivers close to 35 orders and works on all 7 days of the week. Mon-Fri, Sat and Sunday have three different earning rates and also based on the number of orders delivered on that particular day. 1. Scenario 1: For 50 orders above Rs. 199 : Zepto fixed income is Rs. 10 per order. i.e Rs. 500 per day. For 50 orders below Rs. 199 : Zepto fixed income is Rs. 10 + 27 (delivery cost) per order. i.e Rs. 1850 per day. Total Fixed Income : Rs. 2350 Variable Income - Zepto charges upto 35% commission from some D2C brands which are onboarded recently and on top of that there is an advertising cost. For some established brands, the commission is also lesser like 15-20% range Assuming Blended margin to be 25%, earning from commission on AoV of Rs. 350 is Rs. 87.5 per order. This equates to Rs. 8750 for the assumption of 100 orders. Total Zepto earning : Rs. (8750 + 2350) = Rs. 11100. Zepto's cost of Delivery : Rs. 50*100 = Rs. 5000 (higher side) Profit at Unit Level = Rs. (11100 - 5000) = Rs. 6100/100 i.e Rs. 61 per order. Additional Income : Partner Advertising Income, Listing Fee, Third Party Advertising like Credit Cards etc. Additional Cost : Dark Store Operation, Employee Salary, Server Cost and many things. If the volume doesn't show de-growth and they keep introducing private labels like "Relish Chicken" which has a higher margin. Zepto can be the next Zomato. Antithesis : There is a de-growth already in the D2C space. Due to funding crunch and path to profitability, offers are drying up leading to de-growth of the entire space. If this is actually happening and keeps on declining, Zepto has a problem in hand as these D2C brands are the major spender on Quick Commerce. Quick Commerce is not as bad as it was portrayed 3 years back. It grew on the back of these D2C brands and eventually accepted by Legacy and established brands as well. #entrepreneurship #technology

Example: A designer insists on extra interviews for minor updates, creating long reports with no actionable insights. Real UX research is concise and effective. 5. Lack of Business Focus 🎯 Great UX aligns with both user needs and business goals. Example: A designer suggests removing all home screen promotions for a cleaner look, ignoring that they drive revenue. Good UX respects business goals. 6. Inflated Portfolios 🎨 Some designers overstate their roles in past projects. Example: A designer lists a popular app redesign but only contributed minor components. Verifying contributions helps uncover genuine experience.
