Buying gold / silver coins on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Trithiya come under low frequency - low complexity purchase category. It is a seasonal product bought generally during specific occasions. Zepto Blinkit Swiggy lapped up this opportunity and started selling this with the benefit of quick delivery. No wonder the sales picked up quite well. I wonder how much would it have impacted the sales of larger eComm players. Sales trends from swiggy is already out. Although I couldn’t attend the morning sessions on Day 3 of Techsparks due to other commitments, I’m glad I made it in time for the insightful session by Kunal Bhal, CEO of Snapdeal. His perspective on the evolving relationship between entrepreneurs and venture capitalists was truly eye-opening. He emphasized that today’s entrepreneurs aren’t just looking for investors—they’re seeking long-term partners who will stay committed for 10-15 years, providing essential mentorship along the way. Kunal also shared the often-overlooked struggles entrepreneurs face, reminding us that building a successful startup takes time, patience, and perseverance. It was a powerful reminder of the unseen challenges behind every success story. One particularly fascinating insight I gained today was about Titan Capital, where Kunal is a key investor. Unlike many investment firms, Titan Capital focuses solely on startups they truly understand and believe in, offering not just financial backing but genuine care and mentorship. He also emphasized the importance of creating businesses and initiatives in Tier 3 cities, which can play a crucial role in shaping India's future. One of the highlights of the session was learning about the concept of INDICORNS, a term Kunal Bhal and Shradha Sharma of YourStory coined today at Techsparks Bangalore 2024, which is a uniquely Indian take on "Unicorns." An "Indicorn" refers to companies that generate ₹100 crore in revenue and are profitable. The cumulative revenue of these companies has already crossed ₹1 lakh crore, a testament to the rising influence of Indian businesses. Kunal passionately encouraged Indian entrepreneurs to challenge global business dominance, especially that of the West, and to elevate India’s name on the world stage. What Makes UPI Special? In any society, the relationship between businesses and the government can take one of two forms: 1. Free Market Economy (Western Model): Businesses are primarily responsible for creating value, while the government acts as a regulator to ensure fair play. 2. Controlled Economy (China's Model): The government takes the lead in creating value, deciding what needs to be done and how, often working closely with select businesses.
