CapEx spends go over 10% of a company’s revenue—largely for expansion, new business, and sustaining current operations. However, finding technically qualified vendors offering quality output, agreeable pricing, and timely delivery remains a laborious and testing process. Before starting Venwiz, I realized why this process needs to be objective but lacks the means to enable that. Subjective choices are prone to biases, ignorance, and relationships interfering with what should be a transparent and rigorous process for high-spend items. Our goal has always been to eliminate these inefficiencies. Not having an objective vendor selection process can: - Increase project costs unexpectedly - Delay project timelines, causing frustration - Compromise project or end product quality - Cause reputational damage But given information asymmetry and time pressure, it isn't easy to stay 100% objective in ranking vendors. By incorporating empirical data, defining parameters based on first principles—like vetting past experience on similar projects—and utilizing technology, we at Venwiz narrow down the most suitable vendors from an otherwise large universe, close to real-time. Arjun Vijay Imagine ordering a Dosa Pan at 00:45 AM because your old ones handle broke, or a Mixer Grinder at 6:45 AM when your current one suddenly malfunctions. Picture yourself needing a mosquito bat in a remote Airbnb late at night, or the convenience of having 10kg bags of rice delivered straight to your door without carrying the carts to parking lot neither carrying in lifts, not to mention daily grocery runs and last-minute orders of socks or underwear before heading to outstation. With its IPO set for Wednesday, the Bengaluru-based startup is not only raising over a billion dollars but is also offering the market a direct comparison to its long-time rival, Zomato—a stock analysts have long considered the “gold standard” for Indian tech listings. Why Swiggy’s IPO Matters Swiggy has already secured $1.4 billion from top investors like BlackRock, Norway’s sovereign wealth fund, and eight of the ten largest Indian mutual funds. Investors and analysts alike wonder if instamart can close this profitability gap—especially as it tries to push into smaller cities and towns. Swiggy vs. Zomato: Who’s Winning? Swiggy’s IPO will bring more transparency to a rivalry that has defined Indian food delivery for years. Whenever I talk to my friends/ex-colleagues who are in the software industry, most of them tell me: 🔘 My Job sucks 🔘 Nothing has changed sir; no growth, no more salary hikes/benefits.. 🔘 Environment is getting more toxic 🔘 I am stressed out; can't sleep 🔘 No WLB 🔘 I am forced to work from office; this is cruel 🔘 My Manager is getting worse..doesn't even talk to me... 🔘 I am stressed out hearing rumours about job cuts.. and it goes on and on....every time I meet or talk to them.. I don't blame them; they are just sharing their frustration with their friend.. BTW, None of the above reasons are new and I have been hearing this for years now..So why do then people stay in these Jobs: -> Need monthly pay to support their family (obviously yes)? -> In their comfort zone; got used to the job? -> Negativity is the new normal? -> Have a social network which they don't want to leave? -> Have invested too much time in this Co, hence don't want to give up now? -> Not confident about themselves finding a new job? -> Assume that market is bad and they won't get a job soon? -> Don't want to let go off benefits, bonus and stock options? -> Assume that things will get better some day in future? If they don't want to move out of their jobs, why do they keep talking about their issues? -> Maybe talking about it is their way of dealing with the situation and finding comfort. Yes? What do you think? Any other reasons why people stay back? I personally feel that *Toxic* term is broadly used these days everywhere. It is important to understand the context before we make our own assumptions. #Paytm employees have taken to the Ministry of Labour and Employment after their unfair layoff without any proper severance package. We all have been reading the brutal layoffs news for the past 2 years; one where the CEO just shows up on the Zoom call to fire 80% of the company or where security guards show up after a conference and employees are escorted. In some cases, they find a legal loophole by forcing you to admit that there was a performance issue and putting you in PIP and thereby crushing your self-confidence and then saving some money by not paying their dues after firing you. There are companies that treat their employees like trash and expect the general public to buy the narrative of "We are a family". If an employee absconds a company then it is frowned upon in the industry, the companies scare you with a bad relieving letter or failed background checks in the next company and yet these same companies face no consequences when they happily ruin the financial and mental status of their so-called "family members". With privatisation on the rise it is high time that we all voice for better labour laws in #India so that people can work peacefully. Do we already have the next Zomato ? Zepto has increased their platform fee to Rs. 9.99 i.e ~Rs.10 (Bangalore) and this is the highest platform fee for any e/q-commerce company so far. AoV (Average order value) at Zepto is Rs. 350 for which Delivery is free whereas for order less than Rs. 199 there is a delivery charge of Rs. 27 (Bangalore). Considering a near hypothetical scenario where no. of orders above Rs. 199 is 50% and below Rs. 199 is 50% and total no. of orders is 100 per day. Zepto pay nearly Rs.50 per order to it's delivery guys who delivers close to 35 orders and works on all 7 days of the week. Mon-Fri, Sat and Sunday have three different earning rates and also based on the number of orders delivered on that particular day. 1. Scenario 1: For 50 orders above Rs. 199 : Zepto fixed income is Rs. 10 per order. i.e Rs. 500 per day. For 50 orders below Rs. 199 : Zepto fixed income is Rs. 10 + 27 (delivery cost) per order. i.e Rs. 1850 per day. Total Fixed Income : Rs. 2350 Variable Income - Zepto charges upto 35% commission from some D2C brands which are onboarded recently and on top of that there is an advertising cost. For some established brands, the commission is also lesser like 15-20% range Assuming Blended margin to be 25%, earning from commission on AoV of Rs. 350 is Rs. 87.5 per order. This equates to Rs. 8750 for the assumption of 100 orders. Total Zepto earning : Rs. (8750 + 2350) = Rs. 11100. Zepto's cost of Delivery : Rs. 50*100 = Rs. 5000 (higher side) Profit at Unit Level = Rs. (11100 - 5000) = Rs. 6100/100 i.e Rs. 61 per order. Additional Income : Partner Advertising Income, Listing Fee, Third Party Advertising like Credit Cards etc. Additional Cost : Dark Store Operation, Employee Salary, Server Cost and many things. If the volume doesn't show de-growth and they keep introducing private labels like "Relish Chicken" which has a higher margin. Zepto can be the next Zomato. Antithesis : There is a de-growth already in the D2C space. Due to funding crunch and path to profitability, offers are drying up leading to de-growth of the entire space. If this is actually happening and keeps on declining, Zepto has a problem in hand as these D2C brands are the major spender on Quick Commerce. Quick Commerce is not as bad as it was portrayed 3 years back. It grew on the back of these D2C brands and eventually accepted by Legacy and established brands as well. #entrepreneurship #technology

After 4 years in industry and multiple interviews, things that helped me crack Adobe Goldman Sachs Meesho and many others (ascending order of priority): 1) Lot of DS grinding, and yes even memorising solns to some of the problems. 2) Confidence , that you can gain only after multiple rejections and attemps. 3) Timings, when I was in job shifting mode, market was in high demand. Yes, the most important factor was easy interview opportunities , no shame in admitting it. Had I started my career today, I would be doing a lot of tussle to even get an interview call. If you are someone who is starting/ just about to enter the industry, its totally okhy if you are getting less number of interview calls, just be calm and know no industry is forver down, apna time bhi aayega! Zepto took a piece of pie from Zomato & Swiggy! While working on this teardown, I realised how zepto cafe has managed to increase my average order value from zepto. Companies fail, founders don’t. <excerpt> Wishberg, a wishlist site launched in 2012 by Pravin Jadhav and Kulin Shah, struggled and was acquired by Freecharge in 2014, which Snapdeal bought in 2015. Jadhav was then brought on board at Paytm to start Paytm Money for stock trading, and eventually started his own, called DhanHQ. Shah worked at Acko before founding Onsurity, an employee health benefits platform. India’s internet ecosystem is full of stories of founders starting up, shutting down, being acquired, of being forced out, before they build something that works. Many founders who exit their businesses reinvest in new ventures. Freecharge’s Kunal Shah has funded over 200 startups so far. Venture capitalists also often back founders who have tried something new and failed. India’s startup ecosystem is still innovating and is in the process of maturing. 👋 Goodbye Zomato! 📈 Blinkit’s Value Soars Higher Than Zomato's Food Delivery Business 📍 The Blinkit strategy of Zomato has been successful, so much so that the value of Blinkit is now higher than the core business of Zomato which is food delivery. 📍 A report by Goldman Sachs showed how fast Blinkit grew and as a result, the stock price of Zomato skyrocketed. 📍 The worth of Blinkit surged to $13 billion approximately which is a six times increase since March 2023. 📍 This was driven by its outstanding performance with 103% YoY growth in GOV during Q4 December 2023 alone among other things. 📍 Goldman Sachs expects EBITDA breakeven for Blinkit by the end of Q4 FY24 and projects that it will have a better EBITDA margin than any year from 2021 through 2030 over Zomatos food delivery business. 📍 Another notable thing about this analysis was Consumer Sentiment where it turned out that Blinkits had the highest favorability rating among consumers thereby solidifying their position as a strong performer within the market space. 📍 India's quick commerce industry is growing rapidly and could reach up to $150bn in the top 50 cities alone by 2023 addressable market size estimates suggest explosive demand for fast-moving consumer goods. 📍 Blinkit’s performance plus the increase in Zomato’s stock price indicates a bright future.

Therefore, (in interviews) - DSA heavy companies such as Google, Amazon, Uber, Microsoft etc., - DSA + Dev heavy companies such as Zepto, Zomato, PhonePe, Flipkart etc., - Dev heavy companies such as BrowserStack, Flexport, Qualcomm, good startups etc., pays pretty well (>25 LPA and >25L ESOPS) as per his/her Experience level in the current Indian market and it goes up and down based on negotiations with counter offers.
